If I were to have a small breed it would be a Daschound, long hair.

my favorite of all time was Hooch, a choclate lab that we lost on Nov 6, 2007. he was the kindest, gentlest dog you ever saw EXCEPT if you were in water. he had this thing about he did not like folks or toys in water, so whenever we went swimming he would always jump in the pool and pull you out to safety. and no float was safe, occupied or not he was gonna swim to it, grab it and pull it out of the pool. he was the perfect bedmate, he knew just exactly how to lay so that my back was propped up against him every night(though my wife fussed about that part!). he got out one night and chased something in the road and was hit. i dunno what he was chasing, cause he did not chase other animals at all usually. maybe he just traailed somethign, i dunno. only one time did we ever have to get onto him about being near the road, and after that he would stay at least 20 feet back from it. when we realized the dogs had got out, we worried about our black lab because he is very prone to just go where he wants, never worried at all about Hooch. at first when he did not come back i thought he was in the horse pasture getting "perfumed up". then we got worried because Beau came back, less than 10 minutes had passed since i initially let them out back and it was unusual that Beau was at the door so quick and Hooch was not. i found him 200 yards up the road in a direction he never went. he had these funny expressions that he would give you when he wanted something. and funny actions as well. the house we lived in when he was pup had a closet right next to the front door. once when he wanted out and we did not realize it, he was sniffing around and bumped the closet door. the noise got our attention and we took him outside. after that point, anytiem he wanted out he would knock on the door with his nose. if you ignored him he would huff and puff at you, maybe even run up and grab your hand to pull you to the door if it went on long enough. but he would not use the bathroom in the house at all unless he was sick. we got home once and his stomach was tore up due to eating something outside. even though it was only one little pile on the tile, he went and hid for several hours. when my wife was pregnant with our daughter Hooch would not let anyone touch her stomach. he would climb up in the chair with her and stand across her so you could not get to her. when the baby was born he gave up his spot in the bed to sleep in the floor next to her crib. Beau, our black lab, likes to walk himself. he grabs his leash and leads you back to the door when he is done with his business. his leash is his security blanket too. if he gets nervous he goes and gets his leash and puts it in his bed and lays on it. at my FIL's during Thanksgiving we went to eat and left him there alone. we shut the door to teh bedroom to keep him out since i had my hunting stuff in there. when we got home the door was open and he was laying in the bed we were sleeping in with his leash. i loved Hooch more than any dog that has ever owned me before. and Beau is not far behind at all.

Different females, different body chemistries, different estrous cycles. It's altogether possible (probable, in fact, given no existing spay scar) that your dog is intact and in heat. I'd err on the side of caution and have the surgery scheduled. At worst, the vet will make a small incision, see that she's already been spayed, and close her right back up. While that's certainly not ideal, it's a better scenario than leaving her intact and vulnerable to developing mammary cancer later in life as a result of not being spayed early enough to help prevent it. Beagle...fell in love with them as a child, still love them, great with children, BUT love to roam, they are hunters after all. Have had two in the past, one lived 15/12 years, my last one only 10.

Papillon, a mostly black with white tummy. They even made the top 10 smartest dog list. It is the ONLY small dog I like though. I'm just not a small dog person. :)

The Havanese. Almost extinct in the 1970's a lady from Florida managed to breed them again. All what they say about them is true. Full of personality!

These little dogs are alert,and quick to understand what is expected of them. They possess a charming and loveable personality. They are extremely intelligent like most of the small terriers, and lack none of the terrier's hardy stamina. They have an alert and lively expression that tells you that they miss nothing going on about them. These little firends become devoted members of the family they are adopted into. They have been known to heroically guard small children and tales are told of them doing everything from herding ducks, to performing circus acts. They are loveable natural clowns. Friendly, but discriminating, they make fine watchdogs.

The breed is non-shedding and odorless.

The breed's beauty is enhanced by a profuse coat from wavy to curly. The coat comes in a wide range of colors and combinations of colors, the best known being white-champayne-gold.

Even though the Havanese is considered a toy breed, they are not meant to be a tiny, fragile dog. They are small, but muscular, lively with great stamina.

I have a Dachshund now. I didn't like the breed until we got Elvira. Each dog has their own personality so don't believe the negative things they say about them. Mine is a funny, friendly, loving lap dog who just wants to be with you all day long. I wouldn't recommend this breed if they are going to be alone all day by themself. They need companionship. I also like their looks and easy care of their short coat.

The next one I would pick is a Westie, West Highland White Terrier, because of their out going friendly personality. They can be very energetic though. I think they need a lot more exercise then a Dachshund. And I do prefer short hair dogs because of maintenance.

Having owned a few different small breeds, I would have to say Boston terrier, sheltie and papillon. I would love to find an Italian greyhound in this area seeing we are dogless right now.

We have a Yorkie...great little dog. They don't shed, and people with allergies aren't allergic to them.

A Cairn Terrier or Westie. Pretty much the same dog only the Westie is white and the Cairn can be anything but white and is a bit smaller than a Westie.

Decisions, decisions and so many choices! Any,,menni,,minne mo...OH! right now at my house, "Penny" the Minni Doxie got one more vote than "Stubby" the JRT...but she only got that in a run off after "Lady" the Great White Pyrenees dropped out of the race!

I like cairns and schnauzers. But given the opportunity I would love to have a West Highland Terrier. We went to a dog show once to speak to the westie breeder and had to pass by the Goldens on the way. That's as far as we got. But I still love westies and would have one in a heartbeat.

Dachshunds--I have 3 right now and I would have a houseful if it were possible. I got my first one over 25 years ago--no one else in my family had doxies--now lots of us do. I just love dachshunds--big attitude and personality in a small package.

My very favorites are Poms and Yorkies. Used to have a 4 1/2 pound Yorkie in the house and now I have a ten pound Pom. Sweet dogs. We had a sweet doxie and a sweet Jack Russell and a very sweet Rottweiler. All the dogs except the Pom were my daughter's while she still lived at home.

I just like the dogs I know, for who they are not necessarily rhe bread. So I like Rascal, the shi'tzu next door. There are four of them, but Rascal is my favorite. He treats me like his best friend, sits right next to me and blocks the othets from getting my attention. He is funny that way. He is my buddy and I tease the neighbor that when he goes missing he'll just be at my house.

I also favor a Pomeranian named Max. His "boy" is DS's best friend, they live two blocks over and they show up here together nearly every day. Where the boy goes, so does the dog. I let them both in the house (dont tell DH, about the dog). Max is the cutest dog ever! OMG he is cute! He is just so happy and energetic and bouncy. Too cute! The family had his fluffy all black fur trimmed rather short, which suits him so well b/c he loves to outside getting dirty with the kids. Not a pampered lap dog, he is a "boy's dog."

We have a Dorkie. He's a cross between a Yorkie and a Dachshund. He's 14 months old and precious. He looks like a Dachshund but with the Yorkie hair.

I have to say Chihuahua too since I have 2.I have had up to 6 at one time but am down to 2.My second choice would be Toy Poodle.I have had several over the years and probably would still have them if they weren't high maintenance.

We're on our fourth Westie. We chose the first one because DH didn't want to walk a frou-frou dog, and some other breeds had back troubles or ear troubles from floped-over ears, or eye troubles due to popped-out eyes, or they required a lot of combing and maintenance.

Westies are low-shed; they do have to be clipped about quarterly. Too highly inbred Westies are apt to have skin ailments. They're 'big dogs in small packages', not yappers, love people. They need to be trained not to DIG, as they are 'earth dogs', bred to eliminate rodents, foxes, etc. which includes entering dens. They have a nice tail/handle developed from that occupation. Best of all...a Westie fits into most any laundry tub!

Our present Westie is a rescue dog, born at a puppy mill. He's not pure-bred despite 'papers', and he does shed! We're family now anyway! (None of the other three shed.)

I had a Yorkie-poo,Daisy for about 12yrs!(she crossed the Bridge almost a year ago). She was a wonderful pet! I also acquired
a ShihTzu,Jasper about 5yrs. ago and love him to pieces! So I would have to say my favorite would be a Yorkie or ShihTzu!

There have only been two small dogs I have ever loved.
One was our little white terrier, Dubbie, who was my protector when I was a baby and my granddog, Bo, a MinPin, who had to be put up for adoption because he was biting people, especially Jake, after his 5 month quarantine in Japan.
Fortunately Bo was adopted by a forever home here in California and is doing very well.
I am not much of a dog person but prefer big dogs to small ones.

I can't think of a breed I DON'T like, but our Norfolk terrier is something special for sure. She's a rescue dog (puppy mill) so there were socialization issues at first, but she is now a happy, playful member of our family. Our beloved cairn Ozzie died a little over a year ago; we'll never forget him.

Min Pins are my favorite now,followed closely by Chi's followed closely by JR's...actually I never met a dog I didn't like.But the Min Pin(at least my Mic) is the smartest friendliest dog I've ever seen....nobody is a stranger to Mic,he LOVES everyone! LOL!

We have two small dogs, poodle and bision frise and a Lab, well at 54 lbs doesn't count. I've had cuddley, sweet, and smart (sometimes smart alec) poodles all my life and I would have more if dh would go for it. Three dogs are enough for him. Here is Abbie and Cassidy. Either one would be your pal any time of the day all for a sweet word and a hug.

OMGOSH Toni!! Those are faces that just make me MELT!! I honestly don't know which breed I like the best...my neighbors had a wire haired Jack...he was a doll...I had Beagles growing up...I love my BFF's long haired doxies...I've met Bumpers Jasper and he is just a doll...i love the Bichon's...the yorkies...the doxies...OMG...i just love ALL DOGS!! I do miss having our shelties...they were much better lap doggies then our collies...50 plus pounds is just too much for my lap!

My favorite is my mutt a rescue from Petfinder. He is half Boston Terrier and half Sheltie so he is very smart. Picture a Boston..black brindle and white but with a Sheltie face. He's 22 pounds and very appealing.
