I am in the middle of my husband's family genealogy, have been since December. I have found out alot of information and made contact with a number of descendants of his GGGGrandfathers siblings through Ancestry.com's family trees and research. We are still at a roadblock for finding where his GGGGGrandfather's family came from. I thought I could link them back to the Eastern Shore of MD/VA but recently found a book on those Boston people and there doesn't seem to be a common ancestor. I gave my husband the ancestry.com website as a gift for Christmas with my doing the research as well. Then for his birthday in Jan. I gave him the DNA kit - well its still sitting on his desk! Not that he doesn't want to do it but as someone said - just forgets. We were also contacted by someone who thinks they may be related back to the GGGGrandfather's generation. They want him to do a more detailed DNA test, one which I found online. Just waiting for them to send it to us - again that was several months ago that we were contacted. For those of you who are into genealogy - check Facebook for groups related to the area you are interested in and/or family member groups. I found one for my mother's family, a group for Southern Maryland Families and one for the Eastern Shore of Virginia. All three have been helpful in finding information and I even met up with a gal who I went to church with when I was a teenager when my brother and I made a sibling trip home to Maryland this summer. She gave me a booklet from the bicentennial celebration of the church we attended. It meant so much to me because my GGGGrandfather had donated the land and lumber for the church, which was 100 years old in 1959 and is still an active Catholic parish. We all attended mass there that Sunday and I will treasure the memories forever.

I started driving a Ferguson 2-plow tractor when I was 13 yr old using it to plow fields in preparation for spring planting. One yr later, I was driving and maintaining our 2-door Model A Ford sedan. I had a provisional farm labor learner's permit and got full license by age 16. I also drove a John Deere Model B tractor for 2 seasons for another farmer. Most of my early driving was on dirt or gravel roads. My Junior yr of high school, I was working in a filling station for 3 hours after school and bought myself a 4-dr Model A. I was the head Grease Monkey. While working the filling station, I drove a variety of customer's cars when delivery was required. The most interesting of these was a 1950 Packard Hearse with an automatic transmission that took forever to get the vehicle rolling. After it passed 15 mph, the engine began to have more effect of accelerating the vehicle. The culprit was the fluid coupling in the drive line.

Elmer, just stop it. *I* know what I said and intended. *You* misunderstood what I said. I am not redirecting anything. *You* are. And not for the first time in this conversation. Of course suggesting an intentional placebo effect is an odd notion...so odd that not only did I never suggest it, I never even thought it! But your fervor to cast aspersions on anything I say so alters your perceptions that you literally can't read what I write and get it straight. You were wrong about what I said. You were wrong about the significance of the placebo effect. You have insulted me, you've insulted TV and now are calling me a liar...all because *you* can't admit it when you're wrong. All you are doing is denigrating your own character and demonstrating the fragility of your ego. Do yourself a favor and just stop. Perhaps in the future, rather than make blanket assumptions, biased misinterpretations and hurl insults as step one, you might just ask if the writer meant X when she said "...." It could avoid all this ugliness.

Oh, my, ilikefriday! What great lessons for your son, though, to see how to manage the unexpected. I had to google both Winnemucca and OB2 scanner. My DS is a fan of road trips, which is ironic because he's a city dweller and doesn't own a car. He's currently on a 2-week road trip through Canada, and the last photo I received (yesterday), he was standing on a glacier near Banff, on his way to Jasper National Park. He started from Chicago a week ago, and is covering a lot of miles. I'm going to look into an OB2 scanner for him for the next trip, as it will bring me some peace of mind at least. I hope your husband sorts out the car situation. I did not know that about gas in Iowa and Nebraska!
