Hi JG - we're getting ready to paint our house this spring too, and I've been pretty much paralyzed by color choices. IÂve made color mistakes before, and the exterior of my house is a pretty big deal. We have a gray-brown roof too, ours is steel (newly installed last fall). ItÂs supposed to be charcoal gray  and the little piece IÂve been carrying around in my purse does look gray  but on my house, I think it looks brown. Hubby says itÂs because the house is currently painted a (unflattering) brownish color, my eye is picking that up when I look at the roof. IÂm starting to think IÂm colorblind or crazy. Anyway, IÂm finally ready to buy my first sample color. ItÂs BM Revere Pewter HC-172. WeÂre thinking of a blue for the trim. ThatÂs hubbyÂs pick, and IÂd be okay with it. You house is really sweet, and I think could carry any of those colors. I really like the green. Louisburg Green is a very nice color. My boss painted her bedroom this color and raves about it. IÂve actually got the color chip right here in front of me  green is an option weÂre considering too. Like you, weÂre already surrounded by lots of trees and other greenery, so I was afraid a green house would get "lost". Good luck with your quest - I hope youÂll show "after" photos!

I take it this is your house and you want advice about how to modify it. The white flashing between the siding and the pent roofs should have been dark. Painting it would depend on the material. The exterior cladding of a Shingle Style house should appear to be as continuous as possible from walls to roofs like a cloak, The designer seems to have not understand that idea or was unsure of the desired style. A Shingle style house should not have corner boards or clapboards; the shingles should wrap the corners. The downspouts should match the siding color. There's too much white trim. Are any of the materials synthetic or factory finished? The siding color is a bit cold and dull and creates too much of a contrast with the bright white trim. I would paint the trim cream or pale gray but the gutters would still be white. The biggest problem will be factory finished white metal — old wood or copper gutters and copper flashing are difficult to emulate with modern factory finished aluminum.

Thank you for the quick feedback! The new roof is darker but not black. It’s very similar to the concept picture. The gutters are mostly on the sides of the house. No gutters on the front. The house itself is pretty plain which is why we are wanting to put something more elegant on the front. I’ve had a harder time figuring out the exterior remodel than the interior. Looking forward the hearing all of your advice. (If you would like a little humor, checkout the pictures I posted when I was researching Romabio paint. Someone asked for pictures of interior to get a since of my style. The whole thing is pretty comical in more ways than one. I went a little overboard. )

This is the name and manufacturer of the countertop. https://www.lghausysusa.com/viatera/color/view.do?pid=2020011011194700708 I honestly hadn't thought of replicating the same wood as the entrance for the fireplace floor but could certainly consider it. I'm not sure that we would be able to find the same wood color and plank size now 15 years later which is the same concern we would have with adding the wood floor to the kitchen. If we chose wood, we would wait until we could replace both the kitchen and the entry floors at the same time. One question regarding the wood floor option for the kitchen - the kitchen also connects directly to our door from the garage, laundry room, and a 1/2 bath so they currently all have the same tile flooring. I have some reservations about durability for a wood floor in a laundry room and garage entrance that has potential for water on the floor. The kitchen also has doors to go to our deck and backyard which the kids and dog are constantly coming in and out of also bringing in dirt and wet feet/shoes. Obviously we use rugs in these places but we live in a climate with snow and ice and winter is just messy. Is that a legitimate concern or am I just underestimating the functionality of wood? I would say our current wood floor must be a softer wood because we have some scratches on it that are very frustrating considering that area of our house isn't really very high traffic use. The short answer as to why we are looking at changing the fireplace because the surround now is the same tile as the kitchen floor. We had picked a ledger stone for there at time of construction but the installer couldn't get the stone to lay right (at that time it was larger stones) and because of construction timelines we eventually just had to put that tile around it. I love my mantle but I have never loved the tile surround. The long answer is a very frustrating and complicated story that I won't bore you with here but in general the fireplace has never worked properly and if we want an actual functional fireplace our choices right now are to take out and repair the current one or take out and replace it. Either option requires removal of the tile surround.
