I know you said you didn't want more red but what about something like this for the ottoman? I think the mustard is wrong for the room but I like the idea of a small dot or pattern.

I'm still thinking about the chair. The squarish pattern seems wrong with the floral chair. I kind of like the idea of something darker but black seems maybe too intense.

I really think you'd be so much better off with a black or very dark fabric. Beige in that front corner will just look washed out, blue and red would be very eye grabbing, but wouldn't relate to the piano.

Because you have that dark piano at the back of the room, I'd pick something a little more visually weighty.

Something like this would be awesome. (Budge, I really love the polkadots!).

I also don't think it would be the end of the world if you went with the beige fabric you've picked. You have a beautiful room! You could get the visual weight with a black throw, even.

I think a soft, warm blue would give you some balance. The eye likes a mix...all warm golds and reds is safe but a bit monotonous, IMO. If you're "freezing up", that might be a message you need to listen to. In the fabric stores, are you still drawn to blue?

Thank you all again! Budge and Chicory, I like polka dots. I already have two large patterns (the red floral and carpet squares), so a small/medium size pattern makes sense. Plus, polka dots are happy :) I do worry, though about a black based ottoman in front of the piano. What do you think?
Would this be too boring for the ottoman? It is a muted stipe (gold, grey, ivory, beige, black). Chicory, could you photoshop that onto the ottoman, leaving the dark fringe and trim?

Amysrq, you might be right about blue. Here is a pic of a textured blue fabric that I bought. It goes with the blue in the paintings and isn't shiny like it shows in the pic.

Last, I understand what Chicory is saying about color weight -- and why that calls out for a darker color. Viewing the room from another direction, however, shows a dark wood side table and lamp. From this direction, wouldn't a lighter color chair with a dark pillow make more sense? Ah fabric FREEZE. I so want to move onto the next stage. Thanks.

Or what about this indoor outdoor fabric for the ottoman?Does anyone know if this kind of acrylic would work on an ottoman with tufts and pleats?

I see what you mean, looking at it from a different angle. I think you should pick the fabric that really sings to you, and if it's too airy, you can drop a black pillow or chenille throw over the side to bring it down to earth a little.

Would you like to see the chair in blue? I could just paint it in a solid to give you an idea.

I'll also do the ottoman. Do you want the skirt to be the darker fabric as well? I assume you do. I'll try to give you a reasonable facsimile anyway.

Here are a few blues (not sure how the blue would look from the other angle), and a darkish taupe color (just for kicks), and the ottoman in stripes.

Chicory, you are amazing! The photo shop made it very clear to me that the ottoman color needs to stand out from the gold couch. It also showed me why I don't want the blue (that I already purchased . . .). It makes the room feel country, something that doesn't sit well with us. I am now thinking of maybe the black/tan for the ottoman or maybe the a black and white ottoman. Anyway, because this message is getting rather picture heavy, I started a new one and posted a couple of your pics (and one of Squirrel's) there. Thank you again!
