High Chairs

I forget at about what age toddlers are ready to get out of the high chair and move onto a little table and chair instead - I am thinking about moving to that stage with my 14 month old because he HATES the high chair and it's sometimes a fight to get him to sit in it and then he throws his food all over the place! I am thinking maybe it's because he wants to be like the big guys and not sit in a high chair anymore??? I have a five year old too but I can't remember what age he was when we put away the high chair and got out the little tot-size table and chairs (which are sitting in the garage right now).

He's probably ready now. My 15 mo gave his up just before his birthday. I have another son who is 23 months older. Little brother wants to do everything big brother does. I think I took my older son out of the high chair at around 18-20 months. WE made the mistake of not putting my older ds in a booster chair. We're paying for it now because my younger ds won't sit in one either.

We have the little toddler size table and chairs, but those are put away right now. Both kids use them as stepping stools if I don't watch out. Both kids are climbers and I have to do everything I can just to keep them at ground level.

I waited too long; he was three. Sounds like you've picked a good time. After all, you're sensing that he's ready to do something else, and why not give it a try since that's the next stage?

Duane was a valued contributor to this forum for some time and very knowledgeable in the purchase of leather furniture, especially Hancock and Moore. If you are primarily interested in a chestnut color H&M, consider visiting Greenfront Furniture (Farmville, VA and smaller location in DC area) or their website. They stock the entire Austin group at a very competitive price only in Antelope saddle (class 3 protected leather). Other hides will cost more. The antelope saddle is a deep brown/burgundy. Greenfront does deliver long distance. I have an Austin low back tilt back chair and ottoman which are very comfortable. No experience with the high back. Whatever you decide on, I would give Duane Collie at The Keeping Room the opportunity to quote you his best price. Service after the sale is important and I believe Duane looks after his customers. You can try brown bottle Lysol but beware that the smell of the Lysol will stay with the straps forever. It does get out some nasty smells and if you like the smell of the brown bottle lysol then you will be fine. I don't like it but it is the only thing that gets out all the bad smells. I can usually find it at a Pick N' Save. I haven't seen it anyplace else and it's kind of expensive but it lasts forever.

I have an Eames lounger and a replica Z chair (like the one JudyG posted above), and I think they look great together! I have them placed away from each other, across from the couch. you can't see it, but the fireplace is off camera - so the couch is facing it. Looks like your living room has enough space for the exact same setup. by the way, I found that Z chair at all modern, and it cost way less than the Joybird version. I was nervous about the low price, but the frame is real wood and the build seems solid. it's very comfortable, and easy to move around.

Sounds like Beagles made the same decision as me for my granddaughter with the Antilop. It comes highly recommended in our family and on Wirecutter. For others contemplating this purchase, I do have to put in a plug for the Tripp Trapp which is designed by Danes, to have the baby be part of family dining throughout their lives, which is important to us too. She has this chair at home and started with the attached baby bed and shared so many nice dinners with us, acclimating & snoozing while we chatted away. She just moved into the seat attachment at 6 months as she sits up now, and I did buy the tray but also a silicone pad to use directly on the table if they prefer. Nice to read how Lyban's granddaughter still uses the chair at 9 years, and it can hold adults too. So yes, it's pricey but with its length of use, seems quite worth it. But I also wanted to share another cool thing I didn't have as a new mom years ago - the Boon Pulp spoon. Last visit I had such fun watching my grandgirl immediately figuring out how to use this spoon - biting the end to get some applesauce with some funny faces! Nice innovation & intuitive design.

Make sure if you put him in a booster it has a strap. That way he will stay at the table eating until you let him down. It will save you lots of headaches. Kids do not like to sit and eat when they can be playing! Esp. when they hit 18 months. If I forget to buckle my son and go to the kitchen to grab something OFF he goes!
