Hancock and Moore Austin High Back Chair

I am planning to purchase an Austin High Back from H and M. My siser chose the Weston Mocha, which i am considering. Any tips on how to choose a leather, the finish, pros and cons of smooth finishes vs. the more weathered look (they are many finishes and looks - i was surprised to have so many choices).

This weston mocha has a very smooth, soft finish. Does the leather finish determine the feel of the chair, like upholstered pieces??

Also, i will probably go with the standard cushion since i have not heard any major complaints about those, but, again, appreciate any insight on choice of seat cushions.

Well after visiting a local furniture store, I may switch to the Town and Country program, They offer three different leathers on at a considerable discount. Fortunately the Chestnut color blends with my room. Of course, this high-end dealer only had pieces in the promo colors, so if i couuld see the higher end leather, I probably would not chose the promo. Could not compare and contrast today. Any thoughts on the Town and Country program, particularly the Chestnut color in an Austin High Back chair and ottoman.

You may want to visit The Keeping Room in Alexandria or on the web, which is owned by Duane Collie. Duane was a valued contributor to this forum for some time and very knowledgeable in the purchase of leather furniture, especially Hancock and Moore.

If you are primarily interested in a chestnut color H&M, consider visiting Greenfront Furniture (Farmville, VA and smaller location in DC area) or their website. They stock the entire Austin group at a very competitive price only in Antelope saddle (class 3 protected leather). Other hides will cost more. The antelope saddle is a deep brown/burgundy. Greenfront does deliver long distance. I have an Austin low back tilt back chair and ottoman which are very comfortable. No experience with the high back.

Whatever you decide on, I would give Duane Collie at The Keeping Room the opportunity to quote you his best price. Service after the sale is important and I believe Duane looks after his customers.

I got the first of these in my store and they're terrific! The color is off from the regular Cavalier Dark Blue, its deeper/darker and richer then normal, and that explains the blow-out price. They don't hide match with the rest of the T&C promotional Cavalier Dark Blue so rather then cause hide match issues, they're going out at 1/2 price. They started with (43) units, there are (4) left as of today and my floor model sold this evening after being out for just three days. Anyways, last crack at these if anyone wants a genuine Hancock and Moore Austin chair in full grade 2 leather at $ 639 each plus shipping. The ottomans will NOT match (they will be lighter) so you are forewarned! -Duane Collie

I've been looking for a desk chair for my home office and the Editorial caught my eye on the H&M web site. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a retailer in my local area with this chair on their floor to try out. Did you get any feedback from the people at the law firm that went with the Editorial series in terms of comfort and ergonomics? I was able to try out the Berwind and Freeman locally, and although both are very nice in their own way, they each had a different feel. I found the Berwind to be very comfortable based on my own personal tastes, but I'm not sure how it would compare to the Editorial. I would welcome any thoughts you have on the Editorial, especially as they relate to lower back and thigh support since I would be using the chair quite a bit for working at home.

leahcate, Here's what you could expect to buy a 4825 chair "on sale" for (the 4824 is the ottoman), without the optional hand-laced trim that is shown on the website photo. This would be my price + shipping if you were buying from my store - as an example only - (I'm not soliciting an order): Grade I Leather $ 1,838 Grade II Leather $ 2,145 Grade III Leather $ 2,317 Grade IV Leather $ 2,979 Doubtful its a grade IV, that's rarefied territory for floor stock, probably not even a grade III hide. So you can see the $ 6K "regular price" is ludicrous for all practical purposes, and the "50% off Sale" at $ 3K doesn't amount to much unless the chair has an exotic hide such as Quintessence, Capri, or Lambskin. This is a common game that I don't play - walk in my store and you won't see a SALE tag with ridiculous markups and equally ridiculous discounts. One price on the tag, and that's what it is.... Hancock and Moore offers Summer and Winter Sales to their dealers that give an extra 5% off and that's the only time I have a SALE on their product. Even then, most customers are dissapointed its only 5%. You're wise not to be duped by the "Big Sale" come-on. I'd be really curious to see what hide is on that sale chair! Duane Collie
