chocolate cream pie

I want to make a chocolate cream pie using pkg. chocolate pudding and freezer ready pie crust for my grandaughter. Is it simply make pudding per pkg. directions and pour into pre baked pie shell and refrigerate? Any suggestion on anything that would make it outstanding? Not a pie maker at all, any all suggestions will be welcomed.And may I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Just make sure you put some sahran on top of your pie. Don't for get the whip cream either.

Stir in a cup of cool whip or whipped cream, whipped...
add a little vanilla to the pudding mix...
Top with more whipped cream.

dcarch, do I get the answers? Annie, maybe you should have cooking classes at your house. I had a hard time finding people. Most people I know said they have never made soup and just use canned. Others were worried their soup wasn't good enough. Now that I've done this once those who attended can help spread the word. Glad you like the frozen cookie idea. I like to make chocolate chip dough and freeze it in cookie sized balls. I don't know how many other types of cookies could be frozen like that. So thinking....that each person could bring perhaps a dozen or more "cookies" for each person. Then you would go home with lets say a dozen of 5 different types of unbaked frozen cookies. I love to be able to just pop some from the freezer into the oven when cookies are needed. Any other thoughts on this idea?

Jude, the frosting is grainy for me too, but I kind of like it that way! So, you aren't doing anything wrong, that's just the way it is or at least the way it's always turned out for me. Julie, the frosting/cake combo wasn't my idea either, another poster (Cindyny) had a teenaged daughter who liked that frosting and so she used it to frost the cake. Yup, another idea I appropriated, LOL. As for the wedding cake, that's exactly what I did, I just made round layers, 3 tiers worth. The cake is "substantial" enough that it stacked nicely and the lower layers didn't crumble under the weight of the top layers. Pixistix, your Grandpa was right. As for that Kitchen Table, well, I guess taste is subjective, I know a couple of people who just thought it was too "plain", but I love the stuff. Good, it's just more for me! Annie

Agreed about the cookie crust being fine, though getting them thin enough for mini-pies is a challenge. You can definitely make crustless—I have in glazed ceramic. It's lovely that way. I'm not so sure of the cookie crumb topping, It would be great if both the pie and crumbs were warm, but I'd worry that room temp or cold, the crumbs would either be too dry or too greasy. You can also make a regular crust with gingersnap spices. Use a generous amount. I usually do cloves and nutmeg or mace in the crust for pumpkin pie.

June, my old instructions say to use 1 1/2 cups of milk in place of the regular 2 cups (in a small box), so the filling will stay firm enough to cut. I started using two boxes to fill up the pie shell.

I have a homemade from scratch dark chocolate pie that I like, but the kids always liked the chocolate fudge pudding mix, not the instant, the cooked stuff. A dollop of whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel ice cream topping, along with a sprinkle of pecans, makes it a turtle pie. Some hot fudge topping and a cherry makes it a chocolate sundae pie. My mother likes it with a drizzle of raspberry jam, melted in the microwave....

Use the chocolate stuff that you cook, and use 2 packages and 3 cups of milk...and while you are cooking the pudding add about 1/2 cup of chocolate chips to the pudding and a teaspoon vanilla.

I do it the same way. The cooked will hold up better than the instant pudding. My grandmother and mother always topped it with Dream Whip that they put a little cocoa powder in when it was just about finished whipping.

I bet few people know what dream whip is. Mother always used that before they came out with coolwhip.
