Need to find a bedskirt and a lamp...

I have posted messages about my evolving bedroom in the past. Finally I'm in the process of painting -- Farrow & Ball (why didn't anyone tell me it was so expensive before they turned me onto this paint?) Blue Gray, which is looking lovely so far. I ordered the PB Jordan quilt from ebay for the bed:

I'm planning to get simple cream-colored sheers for my windows.

I am looking for a bedskirt, not sure if I want a solid cream color (like the background of the bedding) or maybe something w/ a little red in it. Any recommendations?

Also, with the darker color on the walls, I need a bit more lighting (we have no overhead lighting in this room, just 2 bedside lamps and a floor lamp in a sitting area). I'm going to put the lamp on this dresser:

I'm thinking maybe about 15" tall. The other lamps in the room are black iron, but I'm thinking about red ceramic (though I can't seem to find one I like) or something else in this spot. Again, any suggestions on lamps? I'll be moving that painting to make room for the lamp but I still don't want the lamp to be too tall.

Given the color of the carpeting, I think I would go cream with the bedskirt. Let the comforter be the important thing - a red skirt might detract a bit from that.

I though of this lamp from Pier 1. Every room benefits from a little black somewhere, and the colors and pattern seem to compliment the bedding - the shade appears cream rather than white, too. Lamp on top left:

Hmm, Les, that lamp looks pretty big although they don't give the dimensions on the site. I am short, the dresser is on the tall side, and I hate looking up into lamp shades if you know what I mean. I was hoping to find a shorter lamp more along the lines of 15" tall. I'd guess the Pier One lamp is more like 24" or so. As for the room benefitting from a little black... this room has a black iron bed, black iron lamps, black curtain hardware, and the black dresser seen in the pic! Anyway, I don't know why I'm having such a hard time finding the right lamp. Continuing to look...

Here's an option since you have a bed with wood side rails. Get a pretty fitted sheet to put over the box spring. Measure the distance from the floor to the bottom of the side rail just below the ledge the slats sit on and get a bedskirt that length or a little longer - should have plenty of room with a conventional-size bedskirt. Detach the skirt from the center flat bit and, if you have to, trim a bit off the top to get the right length. If there are pleats, put a few hand stitches in to secure the pleats in place below your cut line before cutting. Sew or glue (use heavy-duty washable fabric glue) the soft side of a strip of velcro along the top edge of your bedskirt, on the right side of the fabric. Velcro tends to be cheaper if you buy it by the yard at a fabric store. This next bit is easiest if you can remove the mattress and box spring and work from the inside of the frame. Using a staple gun, staple the hook side of the velcro to the inside of the side rails and footboard along that ledge the slats sit on. Stick the two pieces of velcro together (if your skirt has pleats, make sure they're centered on each side) and tah-daaah, you now have a bedskirt. You could just staple the fabric to the frame if you wanted but if you use velcro you can take it off to wash or change the skirt easily.

I recently went thru a similar search for a Calif. King size. I didn't want to pay a fortune and found what I needed on Amazon. I've also seen the velcro style on their site but I've owned one in the past and found they never looked as neat as I wanted. They would move every time I stripped the bed and put the fitted sheet back on. The link below shows the one I ordered and I've been very happy with the quality. Do you live by a Penney's outlet by any chance? They sell the bedskirts from their bedding sets for $1.99. I'm starting to have a very nice sized "just in case" stash! If you don't live near an outlet (they're soont o be doscontinued anyway, MAJOR bummer for me since I go there at least 1x a week), check the clearance/outlet section of their website. I don't know if they sell the unpaired bedding separates, but that's where it would be if they do. It's the only place I've seen nice, BBB alternative bedskirts for sale on their own, for a good price. Even the BBB ones go for like $50 or more.

So much for my first suggestion, eh? LOL

What about something like this? I know it looks kind of bright, but it says red in the description, and I think the striped shade might be a fun addition to the room.

You could also look for a warm beige ceramic or a glass or crystal base and a red shade to add to it. Maybe something like this one from Target:

You could also consider an uplight style, so that you wouldn't have to look up into the shade.

This is pretty, although it is 20" tall.

I just had to drive my daughter to a friend's and decided to pop into TJ Maxx on the way back. Jackpot! I think this lamp does the trick. The middle part is red, might be hard to tell in the pic, and the metal has some black/bronze tones as well as some red on the edges. {{!gwi}}
