Bedskirts!!!!

This is not going well. I posted before about my new king size bed, and my cluelessness at finding bedding for it. Thanks in part to this board, I've done pretty well at outfitting it with the proper quilt and pillows, but it is on a metal frame, I store things under the bed, and I need some kind of bedskirt. The bed itself has a plain, seed-stitch looking white cotton quilt on it, with a set of king pillows, two sets of standard pillows- all pure white linen, and then euro pillows with vintagey, contrasting, floral linen and velvet shams. I tried a white, voile ruffled bedskirt, thinking the romantic look would contrast well with the rest of the bedding. I don't like it, and thought I might expire while lifting my latex mattress to install it. I don't want to try that again any time soon. Most bedskirts online seem to be made of cheap fabric. Any sources for high quality cotton, matelasse, or linen, wrap around bedskirts?

Have you checked the Company Store? I'm thinking about replacing mine with one of those that use Velcro.

Hi Organic-I was in a similiar situation last year. I have 2 suggestions 1-Would you consider purchasing bed risers-they will raise your bed a few inches off the floor, then your bedskirt would be the correct length. I bought some at BBB and they work well for me. 2-I had it in my head that I needed a certain "sea glass blue" colored bedskirt to go with a PB duvet cover. I took my duvet cover to the mall and shopped at Macy's for over an hour-and I ended up with something lovely-but nothing I would ever have considered. It is a two tone greenish Calvin Kline that really brings out the sea glass bue. I guess what I am trying to say is that actually taking the material and putting it up against different patterns etc opened my eyes to other possibilities. Good Luck!

Linen Bedskirt?

Linen wrinkles. It wrinkles due to atmospheric pressure and use. Your cat's hair will also get on it when she goes under the bed. But if the price is right, it still might be a good solution to your problem. Just be aware.

Our adjustable bed base is different from yours. It is quite a bit thicker, and upholstered/padded, but with metal legs. You can attach a headboard and footboard to the base. We added our headboard but do not use the footboard as we have a largish chest at the foot of the bed. I do not like underneath the bed to show. I had a bedskirt custom made it's the flat pleats and attaches with velcro. Works great. As I mentioned in your previous thread, we do not adjust the foot of the bed, just the head. Also, our bed is normally left flat, unless we are in it, so when the bed is not in use, it's made and the bedskirt looks normal. Honestly, I've not looked at the bedskirt while the head is up but adjusting the base doesn't pull the bedskirt out of place. Hope all that makes sense. LOL

That's a nice looking bed. Where is it from? I'll let designers advise on if it goes in the space, but it's nice. BTW, I love my upholstered headboard. I sit in bed and read in the evenings. It's super comfy for that. It's just a headboard I had made which I use with a metal frame and a longer bedspread to cover the box spring and frame. I'm also over bed skirts. Although they did cover a lot of stuff I store under the bed so they had their purpose for me.

Thanks! The detachable bedskirts are what I need. I remember Eileen Fisher had a linen version on Garnet Hill a few years back. I can't find anything like that now.

i think the big problem with bedskirts are they all seem too ...ruffly. i prefer a more tailored approach, simple and clean. i'd check etsy to see if you can have one made. GL!

Martha Stewart has a nice tailored one, I got mine in cream and paid 39.95 and I'm very happy with it. Got it at JCPenneys. I have to admit I've run out of patience when it comes to bed skirts shifting to I took a sturdy stapler and stapled it all along the edge under the mattress and it hasn't moved an inch. I can use the staple remover to take them out when it needs washing.

I recently went thru a similar search for a Calif. King size. I didn't want to pay a fortune and found what I needed on Amazon.
I've also seen the velcro style on their site but I've owned one in the past and found they never looked as neat as I wanted. They would move every time I stripped the bed and put the fitted sheet back on.

The link below shows the one I ordered and I've been very happy with the quality. The fit was perfect and it has 2 pleats on each size and one on the end, in addition to the split corners.

I bought a very nice bedskirt once from Country Curtains, but most --even from the micer places, look skimpy and insubstantial. Having a bedskirt is not necessarily more expensive than buying one fron a store or online, and for the better quality, the lining, and the deeper hem, the cost is well worth the trouble.

I have the Pottery Barn one in a King size (in the Matine toile pattern) -- it is very nice quality and I like the look of the inverted pleating and covered buttons.

I got it on clearance a few years ago for a steal (and oddly they still carry the same one).

Oooh, I love that Pottery Barn one! I also want to look into the detachable variety. I have a king size latex mattress, which is very heavy and flops when you try to get under it.
Thanks for all the good ideas! I guess what I really want is a tailored but still rich look.

Try Tuesday Morning. I purchased two from there last summer, both with a permanent pleated look that look more expensive than some I've seen. I think they were about $20 each.
