hello , to mothers with boys , i have a 3yr old son ,who doesnt want to play with his boy toys , i have a 2yr old daughter also , and he seems to want to play with only her toys . at x-mas we bought him many very nice superman and powerranger toys , but he didnt want them , he wanted to play with his sisters kitchen and her tea set ..i dont want to read to much in it , but hes getting out of hand with it .. can someone help me ...

Ignore it....boys can cook too.
My daughter firmly believed that toys should have no "gender bias". She has 3 boys and a girl. Before the girl was born there were trucks and dolls side by side...and kitchens and play food. She found the dolls sleeping in a truck and the trucks loaded with plastic slices of bread and pretend fried eggs. She also firmly believed that children should have no toys that even looked slightly like a gun....and found the boys "shooting" each other with a banana!
Don't worry....playing in the kitchen is good for boys.

I'd ignore it also. My two boys were highly interested when dd got her first cooking set. They played with it as much as she did. They liked to help out in the real kitchen too.

As far as the toys he is ignoring like Power Rangers and Superman. I wouldn't worry about that either. I've found my children's favorite toys are the ones they pick out themselves. The favorite toy may end up being something else like scotch tape, scissors, and a cardboard tube from toilet paper.

Don't feel bad. Guess it all depends on how we feel about those things, but I would rather be in your shoes with no pressure than having to feel the pressure of always looking stylish. Of course I'm assuming she has that pressure and I could be wrong. That would be tiresome to me to feel like I always had to dress a part. Of course I probably am the perfect candidate for what not to wear with my normal wardrobe of just jeans and a top. Even to work.

Children go through stages like this especially at that age. Two of my grandsons would stand at the bathroom door and cry all the time mom was taking a bath. My sister in law practically raised her granddaughter, she would cry when the Mom came to pick her up. When she was at her home she would cry "Mommy" for her grand mother. It hurt the Mom to hear her children cry and call for someone else, but they all got through it just fine.

Sylvia, I can identify a lot with the mother here and went through something similar with my oldest son. (he's not into drugs though) but he moved out because he didn't like my rules, he didn't like my husband, he wanted to be 'man' of the house. One of my problems before I got married was being inconsistent and not following through. The kids walked all over me and if I didn't have the support of my father and my husband to help me stand up to them, I might have not married my husband. Everybody in my family could see that my kids were trying to 'run' my life and it was my dad that finally made me wake up and tell my kids that they are adults and I have my own life. I love them and want them in my life but they are not going to tell me what to do. They would have been happier if I had stayed alone the rest of my life, but that isn't what I wanted. OP says: "She said the kids come first and maybe I'll have to go stay at my mothers or something while she tries to help Jimmy." That doesn't sound like she's part of a united front. I hope he is sharing these messages with her. She really needs to be strong and stand her ground and give her son the conditions that SHE decides for him to move back. My 21 year old came back a couple of months ago and he had to find a job, clean up after himself, a couple of regular household chores, and has a bedtime of 11. Those are more rules than he had when he was growing up because, even though I had the rules, I didn't enforce them and the end result was I got treated like a doormat. It took him a couple of years out on his own (sleeping on my mom's couch for almost a year) to make him appreciate that my rules aren't so bad. He knows I'm the parent that cares about his future and won't let him be a bum. He saw that his 18 year old brother was living at home, following the rules (for the most part), going to college, working a part time job, and had a car. He was 20 and still had nothing and was in the same position as when he left. I think he came back because he knew he needed some guidance and in order to come back, he's had to follow my rules. He's accepted that and is now working and planning out a future. He doesn't 'want' to be here, he'd rather be on his own, but he realizes that he needs to start acting like an adult if he wants to be treated like one.

Hi Kasey and ChloeMichelle. I'm glad you both wrote in. It helps to hear others thoughts. I have a 'grown' stepdaughter as well. She's 25 and has a 7 yr old son and a 19 month old daughter by 2 dif. dads. She's not married but living with the father of the 2nd child. The 1st child's father beat her and she never filed a report so she doesn't want to fight for child support b/c he might want to get custody and she doesn't want to chance that. She's just like her mother - - - very rude, abrupt, unfriendly, hateful, etc. The guy she's with now is totally supporting her and both kids. she stays home. She's tried school about 4 dif. times now and has decided not to go back this year. As far as I hear from my grandson, she doesn't cook much, I know she doesn't clean much. If this guy dumps her she has no way to support both kids on her own. My grandson has come to visit and told us he knows what 'the weed' is, that he can smoke when he's an adult. His mother even told us she took him to get his hair cut in a mohawk (he wanted one b/c his uncle's got one) and he 'chickened out'. A mohawk on a 7 hr old - yep, that'll get him in the right group of friends. :( I'm with Chloemichelle - what do I think I can do about it? Not a thing. I'm with you Kasey on the fact that it is as frustrating as anything I've ever dealt with before. I didn't have kids of my own. I want so much to have a positive effect on the grandkids AND the stepkids (I also have a 21 yr old stepson that has caused some issues but not near as many as the 25 yr old!). I keep telling myself to be here for the grandkids and show them a different side and then hope and pray that they turn out differently. I can't keep my husband from spending time with the kids but it is so unpleasant sometimes b/c they don't really talk to me or act like I'm not there. I put up with it b/c I want to spend time with the grandkids. I've been married to him for 10 yrs so I'm somewhere in the middle of where it sounds like you guys are. I don't THINK I have the drug issue to deal with and am very thankful. Keep your chin up and be as positive an influence as is possible for your grandkids. We're the ones that maybe can make all the difference.

At 3 he's way too young for power rangers and superman....stick to sponge Bob and Blues Clues.
Play food and dishes are something he knows about.

I wouldn't worry about it and linda is right...I doubt he can get into Power Rangers and Superman at age three.

How about trains, cars, balls, Buzz Lightyear, Bob the Builder, Diego? Again, though, I wouldn't worry if he still gravitates towards the more girlish toys--They may just be giving him a better opportunity for imaginative play. Plus, I notice kids always want to play with other people toys more....Why don't you try giving him a barbie doll and your daughter a train set and see if he doesn't want to play with "her" toy instead of his.

I recently heard about a little boy in FL whose parents interpreted his desire to play with dolls when he was 2 years old, as a sign that he was genetically ingrained to be a girl, so naturally they started dressing him as a girl and calling him by a girl name. This is how perverted our society has become!! I believe the parents are being charged for child abuse or endangerment, not sure which...

I'm a stay-at-home Mom, so my son naturally emulates what he sees all day when we are home. He likes to "help" me cook, he loves to help clean the windows and vaccuum, and my proudest moment was when he asked Daddy to take him shopping :))

Don't sweat it Mom, your son is very normal. Keep in mind though, this is probably not the story that he wants you to tell when he brings home his first girlfriend.
