I am somewhat associated with PineRidge Gardens, as I'm doing web design for them, but given that blurb, I really would like to suggest E purpurea TT selection from the catalog. I'll link a photo from Flickr that I doctor'd considerably to get very close to the wild deep intense color on an older flower of the plant. It's also very very well branched, if you want I can show you a full plant shot as well, but the color of the flowers, which are just a tad smaller than std E purpurea also....really stands out. I use Tre Wax...it has a high percentage of carnauba. I don't know the brands you mentioned...maybe they do too? Get the wax with the highest percentage of carnauba...rub on a small spot, allow to haze over and buff. I use either a discarded piece nylon of panty hose or a microfiber cloth. Linda C

I just started my bonsai collection in early October of this year (2015). I have a Catlin Chinese Elm tree on my North-West facing window sill, with a 5000K CFL light above it that is on for 12 hours a day. I cut off all the small branches and all leaves, leaving only three main short branches and no leaves. Within a couple of days, buds were bursting everywhere! Within two weeks, it had more leaves and branches than when I originally received the tree and it looks as healthy as ever. Also, after repotting it twice when I first received it (I learned of better soil mix and also got a bigger/better pot), I accidentally broke the pot it was in and had to repot it a third time in the same 30 day period. NO issues - it is chugging along growing just fine! So I would suggest a Chinese elm as a great beginner bonsai tree that can take a lot of abuse. I've already killed a Lemon Cypress, and I have a Meyer Lemon and Serissa Foetida that aren't doing so well. I also have a few Jades (Portulacaria Afra / Elephant's Food) that are doing alright, but no where near as much growth as my Chinese Elm! I am waiting on shipment of a Ficus Benjamina and a Jaboticaba as my next two trees to add to my window sill collection, and I am also interested in purchasing a Sageretia, Pomegranate, and Olive tree so you could also look into those tree as options (though I have no experience with them yet but have read that they do well indoors).

In the past when RPS updated their website (it is now nicer but much slower to browse) my account was deleted with all my past orders. They did not move any past orders or any customer accounts to their new site. The seeds that take about 2 months to arrive since they wait a month to charge a card and then another month to deliver arrive continuously partly or mostly not viable, shattered or they germinate in very low percentage such as 3% or none. I did have some very limited success with RPS seeds in the past, but a lot of misidentifying is going on, even now I realized the couple of palms that germinated from the batch are different species than I purchased. Take your chances. If you have no other source for specific seeds, take a chance and good luck. I am now ordering seeds, germinated seedlings and palms directly from suppliers even that I am just a collector and even if it is harder to achieve that.
