on the edge of my seat right now

Got a text message from my DS in HS- the school is on lock down, code red. Meaning there has been a threat made on the school, no one goes in, no one goes out, the students remain in locked in the classroom, windows blocked, until further notice.

On the upside, it was made before school actually started, and many students were not there yet. They were turned away at the street and sent home. On the down side, obviously my son is there. But at least he has been allowed to text me (normally serious offense), so I am communicating with DS. He has told me a little, but I don't know the source of that info, could be rumors, so I'm not repeating it or focusing on it. Not enough to worry me.

My rational side tells me ride it out, the kids are safe, precautions taken, I know the system is well thought out. He happens to be in a small honors class right now, so I feel better that that group is probably handling it well, calmly. But I'm a mom, so I'm worried. Nothing on the news yet, keep these things quiet for now. I'm listening to the police scanner online, but none of what they say makes sense to me. I don't think what I'm hearing is related at all, sounds like normal traffic stuff. Maybe these security issues are handled on a non-public frequency?

Anyway, had to share, and I don't feel like talking with local parents, they'll freak me out.
