Those are very impressive figures--$8,800 saved, almost 24,000 cigarettes!! You must feel so happy when you look at these numbers. Fantastic, and congratulations to you for that achievement.

You are kind to post this site, and I hope it inspires others. I don't smoke, but my dear mother did for 60+ years, and she tried to quit several times, but her heart really wasn't in it (quitting).

Taigen - you are so sweet to do this. I congratulate you on your success. In my post on the other thread, I spoke that we didn't need bashing, but discussion. This is exactly what I was referring to. This is also why GW and the KT are crucial these days - to share just this type of info.

Have you been involved with the forums there?

I was involved with several, some time ago.

Quite a number of people said that had it not been for the understanding, advice, support and friedship which they found there, they doubted that they could have persisted in their Quit.

Several years ago when I sold corn-fired heating stoves, shortly after they were introduced into Canada, when I had my demonstration trailer set up at a fall fair in a nearby town, three young women in their teens walked by, at least one of them smoking.

I approached them and in a rather light-hearted, bantering way, with a smile on my face, asked her how she'd like me to give her a Cadillac?

Sort of turning a shoulder toward me and looking at me out of the corner of her eye, she asked me, suspiciously, what she'd have to do to qualify.

I told her that I didn't intend to give her a Cadillac, but that if she were to choose to quit smoking and save her money, before too long she'd be able to buy one for herself.

When she asked whether I was telling her to quit smoking, I said that I was not ... that I'd lived for a time where there was little freedom and that I'd learned to value my right to choose how I should live my life, and that I should respect her right to live her life as she chose, too ...

... but that I wanted to make a suggestion to her as to some alternatives that she might find interesting, and choose to follow. What she did about them was up to her.

As I'd been a personal financial advisor for a time, I suggested that, were I to suggest to her that she to drop the price of the cigarettes on the street every week ... or drop it down a rathole, she'd tell me that I was nuts. But that if she were to do that, she'd be doing herself a favour, rather than spend it on cigarettes, that'd quite likely cause her body major trouble in later years: it's not a good idea to make our bodies like a chimney ... had she ever looked up the chimney above a fireplace?.

The girls were rather interested, and we had a discussion that may have been worthwhile. Who knows?

I quit smoking a year and a half ago with the help of CHANTIX. They also had a website where it calculated the savings. Of course, my motive, any anyone elses is health but it sure is intersting to see the figures! Just recently I went over the $2,000.00 mark. Hee, hee, it helps that the price of cigarettes increased significantly in March, too!

More than the savings I really notice that I am not coughing phlegm anymore and enjoy taking nice big breaths of AIR. Life is good.

P.S. I am not in any way working for CHANTIX, I can honestly say that it worked for me effortlessly.

Glad to see this thread again. I tried Chantix but had a very bad reaction to it. I used a little bit of the gum but didn't like that so I just did it by getting through it as best as possible.
When I quite cigs were almost $11. a pack...I know they have gone up here also but I'm not sure what to.
I really do regret not pocketing that money...I would really recommend to anyone quitting to make sure you put that money spent into a bank account or something.
I too have noticed the health benefits. I am also now looking forward to getting my teeth nicely done since I quit. No more "fuzzy tongue" etc.
Apart from just health benefits and money there are just little things that you suddenly realize are different and nicer.

Out of curiosity I did click on the link and it calculated that I would save $900 a year and add 27 days to my life.
