It did make me cough yesterday when I opened the bag and poured it into another container. It can be dusty. But I feel fine now. You may want to consider wearing a dust mask next time you use it. I usually buy a large bag and empty it into a plastic pail (that had cat litter in it) so a lot of the dust dissipates. If you keep it in the bag, the dust kind of stays there and you breath it in each time you scoop it out.

We must have been posting at the same time...... Sable - he does wheeze during his coughing attack. Luckily my FIL is a doc & he has come by daily to check his lungs. That is great about your son taking care of his own meds.....shoot, I'm just trying to get this boy to remember to brush his teeth daily when he wakes up!! Golddust - he has a major sinus infection now. They did a CT scan & showed the cavities or rather not showing the maxillary cavity b/c it is so congested. Segbrown - I am glad Flonase is working for you. My DH uses that also. We are using inhalers that have the fine powder that comes out - he was having a difficult time knowing when to inhale & push the inhaler. I find myself wanting to twist & cock the inhaler for him but he has to be able to do it himself & he does. Total fluke about getting tested for allergies.....I had an appointment b/c of a rash on my arm. Asthma doc & FIL worked together many years ago so FIL tells me to take my DS with me to my appointment just to make sure he was not missing anything. So, I call to ask if I can bring my son & Dr. says yes. Well, after they did that testing on his back - my rash was never mentioned!! I am so grateful that we took him and had him tested b/c this explains so much. I am totally rambling but I really appreciate the support. Smiles:)

Sounds just like my cat, Mary, who has asthma. I brought her to an emergency clinic on a Sunday when her breathing was very labored. They were talking about all kinds of tests including the wash to pinpoint the problem. (huge $$$) To make a long story short, she has seasonal asthma. She's absolutely fine all winter and the first start of spring she coughs and her breathing turns into wheezing. I start her on predisone daily. The predisone is cheap and works great but ideally she should use the inhaler. It's a pain in the butt to deal with every day since I have to board her for vacation. I'd love to find out about the shots but my vet doesn't believe in them. My other 2 cats are fine. I'm in New England so now the windows are closed and no grass, trees, or flowers to deal with. I also no longer use any smelly cleaners, use dust free litter, and the house is smoke free. All these can be irritants. If treated it's not a death sentence. My 3 year old Eskimo receives the Bordatella vaccination every January. At 8:30 p.m. Thurs., July 14 he started the dreaded cough - this went on all night, every half hour. I was on phone to vet at 8:30 a.m. ready to go. We were prescribed a WONDERFUL cough suppressant - well probably wonderful to me because it worked. My doesn't get a lot of exposure to other dogs - but does get groomed and goes weekly to a socialization class. But of course the vaccine only works against some strains. However, a vaccinated dog apparently has a shorter recover period - and this was the case with my dog and a couple of others I know about in Toronto. All dogs came down with KC at about the same time - but all live in different areas. Guess the time of year. I got to the vet so fast because in 1976 we adopted an 8 year old Beagle from the Humane Society. Day 3 he started violently coughing and had the greend discharge coming from his eyes and nose - horrible. We hadn't even heard of KC and in those days dogs were not prescribed cough suppressants nor anti-biotics when at the discharge stage. He almost died of KC so I wasn't taking any chances. I did tell our dog's Groomer and did not take him to socialization the next week. I am allergic to cough meds so my guy had his suppressant, my husband took a Tylenol Cold - and I had a Life Saver (not fair). My dog's med is called Butorphenol. There were 15 in the bottle - he only used 3 1/2 - weighs 20 lbs. If the cough hadn't cleared within 5 days or so I was to take him back and they would recheck to see if he had a temperature. The other thing that can cause similar symptoms is a piece of grass (or fur) that gets caught up the nose and firmly lodged - although breathing can start to be affected at that point. Or my worst fear - congestive heart failure. My dogs tend to be quite healthy, except for the one thing they get that eventually does them in. (Had mini Dachshunds for many years - loves of my life - and worst case back/neck disc disease with the horrible surgeries.) Hope your pup gets better fast - but I might want to get a pet cough suppressant.
