meri, sorry for all you are going through, but I have about 20 cans of samples and quarts under my cabinet as a testiment to how well I chose color also. I started looking at colors one year before I actually had to make a decision on any of them. Then one day DH comes in and says, OK, I'm ready to start painting. In a panic, I picked my colors. The Nantucket Grey was the last one I had chosen because I wanted something that wouldn't clash with the Yorkshire Tan in the guest bath that is one door away and I knew I wanted green for the office. When I wa in the paint store making this final room decision the lady showed me the TG and I thought, wow I like that. Then I realized that is the color I had originally thought I wanted to the outside of my house. DH dissagreed and won on that one, but I felt it was an omen that I have NG somewhere in my new house. LOL When it came time for the foyer color, I didn't have a clue what color I was going to paint it. I had a sample of fabric that had an embroidered rooster and I just loved the green in that rooster. So I looked at the BM strips, picked out the GG and TM and told DH put them on the wall and ceiling, that I don't even want to see them first. Needless to say when I saw them up I fell in love. So I feel your pain, if that helps, which I'm sure it doesn't, LOL Here is the fabric I was speaking of. Good luck and I can't wait to see your final choice.

Thank you oilpainter....so your son re-painted the kitchen sage green? Or did he re-paint the dining room? Which card was he picking the green color from? Yes I have heard of that as well, using differnt values off of the same card for open floor plans and using different punches of accent colors in each room to add interest. My sister in law did this in her house. She has a center hall colonial, just like us, and she used different values of a taupey brown color all throughout the house. In the dining room she put a darker value of the taupey color above her chair rail and below the chair rail used a dark navy blue. In her sitting room she has the taupey color above the chair rail, with a deep dark maroonish color under the chair rail. So all the rooms seem unified and timeless but each room as its own distinct look with the accent color below the chair rail and in her drapes and furnishings.

Wow, this is fascinating to read. Oh oh re the Safari - if it reads green undertones in your room, then it will in my house no doubt. I actually decided it may be a tad darker than I want. Interesting that Straw can look mustardy at night - that would not work for me so I may have to steer clear of that too. Bookmom and others, do the lighter tones have less tendency to play green undertones than darker colours?? (seems to be the case for Bookmom's experience above) I am now opening up the possibility to lighter colours - a bit more colour than a strictly off-white but lighter than Ivoire (or other mid-range colours). But I will do anything to avoid green undertones. They are the big no-no for me!!

I wanted to update on what we ended up doing. We updated and put the house on the market and the changes we made were very well received while showing it for sale. Overall I was pleased with the look and the ease of sale. Pictures at Trulia link below. http://www.trulia.com/property/3225317444-4-Summer-Pl-Hattiesburg-MS-39402#photo-10 After prep of scrub with TSP then, rinse with water, 1 day of try dry, then a coat of wood contitioner, I did java gel stain (light coat, wipe on wipe off) on the bottoms with a arm-r-seal clear coat in satin. The color turned out very rich with depth. I just loved it. We wanted two tone so we painted the tops. I personally would have gone more taupe but since we were selling it was recommended to go light. It's Elmira White semi from Benjamin Moore. The walls are Pashmina satin with birght white gloss trim. The counters are Formica River Gold. We did not have one complaint about the formica vs granite during showing. We did all the bathrooms too, white sinks bronze hardware. If I were staying in the house I'd probably have put a light coat of antique glaze on the top cabinets. Something we were considering adding when we received an offer. We also did not have any complaints noted about the tile floors.
