I thought of Pierce Brosnan, cause he's gorgeous, but he's not rugged enough for the Roark character.

Sean Connery.....he's sexy at any age!

I love him too, but can't think of anyone quite suitable to play him.

I thought of Pierce Brosnan (and he was rugged enough to play James Bond!), but Roark is younger. Sigh.

And believe it or not I thought of Clive Owen, too. I recently saw the preview for Duplicity, his new movie with Julia Roberts. He was quite attractive in that!

The books do mention Roark's Irish accent, but perhaps I'm more aware of it because I haven't actually read any of the books; I've listened to the audio versions.

I notice no one has mentioned an actress to play Eve. We don't care about her. LOL

I love these books! I was buying a Nora Roberts book at the bookstore and the cashier turned me onto them. I can't get enough. I can't think of anyone to play Eve, maybe Jennifer Garner? She can carry the tough chick stuff.

I still like Pierce. I'm going to stick with guys who are in my age group. Anyone a lot younger wouldn't do it for me! Plus, I don't know a lot of the younger actors. Academy awards etc, are almost unrecognizable, with actors/actresses who I don't know.

I agree with you there, Jasdip. And I do like Pierce. I might like him even more if I hadn't watched Mamma Mia this weekend. The poor man ......... those desperate attempts to produce something resembling singing! He gave Meryl a couple of great kisses, though, so I'll back you up on Pierce as Roark. :-)

Oh, and Trish, yes--Jennifer Garner! I like her a lot, although since I never saw Alias I didn't know she has a tough side.

I have never seen Alias either. I pick up a "tough" vibe from some makeup commercial she does, lol. And I would have to vote for Pierce too- so yummy!

I read this heading and immediately thought of Howard Roark from The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. While the book was interesting, I thought the movie dull, especially with Gary Cooper as the young architect.

Now I'll have to read one of these books. As for young Irish actors- there's Colin Farrell. Personally I favor Liam Neeson - is he too mature for the part?

Ah, that's why the name sounded familiar! I was a big fan of Ayn Rand back in the sixties. In fact, a signed copy of Atlas Shrugged was my biggest eBay sale.

I like Liam Neeson, too. But Roark has been described as having the face of an angel (a misbehaving one, as I recall). Perhaps "prettier" than Liam?

Do start with the first in the series, by the way. I read two from the middle before I found #1. Not a big deal, but it might be more fun to read them in order. Naked in Death is the first one. As I mentioned in an earlier thread, I didn't think I'd care for these books because I'm not a romance reader. But I'm totally hooked.

I don't know the author does it. At the same time she's writing this series, she's churning out romance novels. They're not little ones, either. I read that the mystery series was started as a vehicle for her to channel her writing energy. I wish I had some of her writing energy!

I don't know who could play him, that guy up there is OK.

What's NOT to love about Roarke? He's loaded, handsome, loves her to bits, is caring, feeds her, has fashion sense, a sense of humor, is obviously great in the sack, and he's just generally hot.

I even like the annoying butler, anyone who picks up after me is OK!

It was checked out of the library years ago, and never returned.

I'd love to know how they met, and if it was love at first site for Roark. I'm sure Eve would have had to do some convincing. She probably wouldn't have given him the time day when she met him. Just my perception, obviously, since I don't know, but do know her character.

From what I've read, Jasdip, she was questioning him for a murder, he was a suspect. DOES the first book cover that? Or maybe it's the author way of kind of starting the series as if they already had a past?

Can you request a book at your library? They could probably get it from another one in their system.

I love Henry Ian Cusik (Desmond). What also about Ewan McGregor? He is so cute and talented! And most people wouldn't tell the diff between Irish and Scottish.

Yes, she questions Roarke about a crime. And yes, she's rather resistant to him at first. Even after they first get together. I wanted to shake her! And when he felt bad because even in her sleep she turns away from him, I wanted to yell, "Let me show you how it's done!" LOL

How about Tom Selleck? He's got the stare, and his face speaks volumes.

I do like Tom a lot, but to me he will always be Jesse Stone, created by another favorite author, Robert B. Parker.

I think the Eve/Roarke series would make a good TV show. Kind of like Hart to Hart. Or Mr. and Mrs. North on steroids.

Hart to Hart was so romantic. Everyone aspired to have a hubby like him. :-)

I'd love to see a tv show based on the series. I want to see their house set-up, drinking Pepsi out of tubes, and the flying cabs etc. I like walking into the shower and saying 110 degrees, then stepping into a drying tube.

I haven't read any of her books! I love Nora Roberts so these should be good too since she is alias JD Robbs.

I haven't read any of the books in this series; although I have read - and enjoyed - other books by JD Robb/Nora Roberts. I was intrigued by the title of this thread...

OK, although I haven't read all of the replies and I have absolutely no personal opinion about the character of Roarke since I haven't read even a single one of the books, I am nonetheless presenting some hunky choices for consideration. In no particular order they are:

From the description in the books, I'm guessing our Roarke looks most like a somewhat older, darker version of Gabriel Aubrey. But with more character than I've observed in my few (virtual) encounters with Aubrey.

I never heard of Carter, but isn't he cute!

I found an article that said he's looking emaciated and unhealthy lately, and they ran this picture. I thought I was copying only the right-hand portion, but apparently not. The other guy is someone I never heard of. They were comparing Farrell's current appearance to his.

I've never read Nora Roberts, but now I'm curious. Other than what's his name that wrote "The Firm" (drawing a blank) I've never read crime dramas. I usually go for funny and day-in-the-life type stories.

I think Mariska Hargitay would look like she could eat Colin Farrell up, he's kind of a twerp. Jennifer Garner kicked butt in Alias, she's really good at the tough (pretty) girl thing. Jennifer Esposito would be really good as a pretty - tough girl but I want her to play Stephanie Plum so you can't have her.

When I read about her (Granny) the character alwasys reminds me of Sophia of the Golden Girls.

Granny reminds me of Sophia, too! I mentioned this on another thread some time ago (I believe we were casting the Stephanie Plum series then, too), and someone vehemently disagreed with me. I'm glad to find I'm not the only one!

See now Sophia has died. Sorry to say. There is another actress I saw there, but I can't remember at the moment.

Jennifer Esposito has played the tough-pretty cop girl in a few movies but she is currently the very funny / but conceded best friend of Samantha in "Samantha Who?"
