Please help - paint colors consistently look wrong

I'm having a really tough time picking paint for my kitchen. Something about this room makes colors look bad. This room receives ALOT of late afternoon sun - located on the northwest side of the house. The tile is tan with a peachy/salmon border so I think this highlights any pink undertones in a paint. I'm trying to find a latte, tan or light brown color. I originally chose a tan with a little olive green and it ended up looking VERY green. The paint I hate in the kitchen looks great in the foyer.

Any advice? I've tried 4 different colors!

So you want a latte-type color for northwest light. Dual exposure is better than single, so you got that goin' for ya.

Do you know the brands/names of the four different colors you've tried so far?

Thanks - chose the name b/c of my son.
Olympic - Saddle Soap - too green
Valspar - Lyndhurst Timber - too rosy
Olympic - Stony Creek - not bad but prefer something a little more brown/coffee like
SW - portabello - too dark and is showing some purply/mauve tones.
So frustrating. Also tempted by Behr Toffee Crunch or SW Hopsack or Latte

Thanks to all for the feedback and for taking the time to look! We originally were doing the hardieboard and stone, but changed our mind and did brick because we just really like the look of painted brick. We've had several people tell us they love the color of the brick, but that's just not the look we're going for. We should have done cream windows instead of clay, but we didn't. Now I'm thinking of sticking with the SW Backdrop for the painted brick and doing the accessible beige or balanced beige for trim. We'll have wood stained shutters that will hopefully offset the windows from the brick color and all will be fine. It's just so hard with so many choices!

Hi, Texasranchlady. Glad I'm not alone in this endeavor. I'm considering, maybe, having the island a different color. But, for me even that is pushing it a bit. I would think the color would have to be pretty consistent. What if you received your cabinets and a couple of doors were damaged. Would they replace the whole kitchen? No, they would send you 2 doors, I am assuming. As far as storing them goes, I think it would be very unrealistic for us. I don't have the space for them to be delivered at one time. Then, we would need to unpack, inspect, and account for every item, repack, move to a separate location, and then, slowly move them back again. All that without damaging them and hoping there was no damage or missing parts that we missed initially. And, it wouldn't be over a couple of months, but more like a year minimum.

Thx everyone. Considering a blue rather than a gray - even though gray is “in”. Just have to find the right blue. Should be closer to navy I think. Will look at SW Anchors Away as suggested. Still wondering though about a cedar color. Not sure about getting rid of shutters bc windows are so insignificant. Also bushes have already been trimmed back. This pic is before that was done. Still, more landscaping in near future after porch is expanded.not obvious is a small red maple near the porch.

I just painted a hallway "Ginseng" by Devine Paint. Lovey soft fawn/tan/light brown. Devine paint is crazy expensive but there are some great colors that your usual paint store can match (if you can get the chip).

I'm having a similar problem with finding the right colors for my kitchen cabinets. I am getting closer, however, thanks to the samples in Behr, Glidden, and Ralph Lauren that Home Depot makes--enough to paint several cabinets and then consider. The Glidden and Behr samples are $3.97 and Ralph Lauren $4.97. You probably know about that already.

SW Latte is a nice, neutral beige. Doesn't show too gold, too green or too pink. SW Whole Wheat is also quite popular, but tends a bit more green than the Latte. Many people are crazy about Tobacco Road, which is a former Duron color, but SW can mix it.

Have you tried the $5 sample jars at SW?
