Electric, eh? Do you have a link to one so I can see it? I might like one, too.

I keep thinking about getting one and then chicken out. Guess I'm afraid to learn a new way. And since I don't really like the flavor of things cooked in crockpots I think a pressure cooker might have the same problem.

I've been looking at the Cuisinart Electric Pressure cooker. But can't decide if I will really use it enough to justify buying it.

Ann, I would bet that you would use that PC enough to justify the purchase. If I recall, you enjoy doing braising roasts and stews - excellent done in the PC and time saving now that you are working part time.

I've always enjoyed braised beef cubes and pot roasts in my 4 qt. stovetop Presto, but now that cool weather is here, I really like pork with sauerkraut and potatoes cooked in apple juice or cider. Last weekend I cooked a pot roast with taco seasoning, tomatoes, and a little extra water then shredded the meat for beef enchiladas for my DS#2 Matthew's birthday. I even made my own enchilada sauce from the cooking liquid....delicious! As there was a little of the beef leftover, I made myself beef tacquitos later in the week......Teresa

Here's some opinions from an admitted Pressure Cooker enthusiast:

I got into PC'ing when my mother gave me an electric pressure cooker. I played with it for a while and then bought a Kuhn Rikon. Once I got a stovetop PC I haven't used the electric one once.

The Kuhn Rikon (I have the 6 qt stockpot; if I were to do it again, I'd get the 8 qt model) is fabulous. It's been called the "Mercedes-Benz" of pressure cookers, and that's apropos--great performance, but with ridiculously pricey parts.

I replaced the gasket about a year ago, and now it needs another. Shopped around online, and the cheapest gasket I could find was $19 plus $7 shipping. That annoyed me, to have paid $180 or so for an item that needs $25 in parts every year or two.

So I looked online for a Fagor PC (missvickie.com recommends them). Found a set of Fagor 'Splendid' PC's with a 8 qt stockpot, a 4 qt saute-type pan and a pressure lid which fits them both--for $104, but it was also at my local Dillard's for $109. Bought it there, and used it last night to fix a recipe out of Lorna Sass's 'Pressure Perfect'.

It worked fine. Seems well built. So if you're considering a PC purchase, you might consider that Fagor set. The Kuhn Rikon might be the Mercedes, but this is at least a Lincoln Town Car.

I have an old Mirro stovetop pressure cooker and I love it for some things. I always use it to make "chop suey" for Ashley, that tough old round steak becomes fork tender in 15 or 20 minutes. It also makes beans in a hurry for things like corn/bean salsa.

I don't use it as much as I should or could, I don't think but I'm sure not afraid of it although it's over 30 years old. I've never had an "incident" of any kind with that or my old pressure canner, nor do I personally know anyone who has, although I've heard lots of "friend of my uncle's cousin" kind of stories.

That reminds me, I have chicken broth in the refrigerator that I need to can tonight, so thanks for the reminder!

granjan, the flavor is enhanced in the PC, I think you would agree that it is not only tender, but delicious.

I got the Wolfgang Puck electric model on HSN. I believe they are sold out though. I will make a mental note to tell you when I notice he will be on again.

I also have his griddle and pots and pans. I am a Wolf fan!
