Hi Lindy:

I bought a Sphere chair from Target for my 5 year old grandson. He loves this chair. It's big enough for him to curl up in and read, watch TV or even lay down in it. (it's big enough for an adult as well and VERY comfortable) There are several colors from which to choose. Not sure if you may want something this casual, however, thought I'd throw it out there.

My daughter is 19, that's what she bought for herself. If it was a spare room, ie guest room/home office I would go with the club chair. But for a kid, I personally wouldn't spend the $$.

Just some thoughts:

How about flipping the room around slightly? Place the bed in the window alcove (coming out from the window) where the desk now sits??

THEN create a whole "library" area where the bed used to sit? First add the desk under the window -- and add tall white bookshelves along the wall (where the headboard is now placed) THEN add your standing lamp and club chair and ottoman .....

JUST a thought ---- really!! I have always adored reading -- and a big cozy chair with an ottoman, a reading lamp and my OWN shelves .....

I forgot to say, I have a 7 yr old son, he has a Spiderman chair, he loves it!

I was looking at Company Kids and they have this little sofa that's cute but maybe all these little kid chairs are too low of a profile to be back in that corner?? It'll be sort of hidden, but maybe that's okay. I dunno?

Ok - I'm thinking really big here....Don't know what is on the left of the window, but on the right you could put in a bookcase and build a window seat. If you have space for another bookcase on the left then you could so some curtains and really make a reading hide-away. Told you it was big! Or you could get a bean bag and call it good!!!! :) And btw - if your not ready to part with the rocker - don't. I regret getting rid of a few of my kids things I let go of too hastily.

I think the main thing is to find her something that will last a few years as she grows. The children's sofas and chairs are SO CUTE, however, do not believe them to be very practical beyond 8-9 years of age. (Brett, my grandson, has outgrown his Sponge Bob chair and I replaced it with the sphere chair. :-)

Another thing to consider (albeit a bit pricey) would be a futon chair. It could also be used for sleep overs when she gets a bit older.

Lindy, did you see the pink tufted corner chair and ottoman on Company Store's website? It's really cute and would fit in the corner. (I tried posting the pic, but had problems with it.)

I love the idea of a window seat, too. Also, JC Penney's has a club chair (I think it was the Brennan one) that comes in a pink cabbage rose type print, but that might be too old for her right now. Good luck!

Sorry I wasn't clear, DD has the sphere chair. She also has a futon. To accommodate her & friends on movie nights, they throw big pillows on the carpeted floor.

I LOVE the idea of a "hidden" corner! I'm thinking of curtaining off my built-in windowseat just for this very purpose, for my 7 yro to have a place to sit and read quietly, away from the noise and bustle.

Yes -- I vote for a cozy chenille-covered club-type chair with a soft blanket to wrap up in. And an ottoman with wheels and storage. And a standing lamp. And a bookshelf or two. LOL!

And yes -- one of those chair-that-opens-into-a-twin-sleeper and ottoman-that-stores-the-linens might come in handy for sleepovers!

They're like bean bag chairs, but it's cut up foam, not the uncomfortable little thingys inside that could make a massive mess. THey come in your choice of colors, fabrics, sizes that is removable and washable if you get the type w/the liner. They have lasted us forever!

Okay, I'm thinking the Chenille Club chair is the way to go but so far, all I'm finding is the really low profile ones. They are all about 20-24" tall. Do they make more of an adult size with pink or purple chenille on a club chair? And I love the idea of it folding out since we messed up and didn't get her the trundle bed. We've needed extra sleep over space a few times already. So now I'm on the hunt for sleeper club chair but bigger in size.

annellis, I do love the looks of that poof chair too since it comes in so many different fabrics. The lavender courderoy (sp?)looks nice!

Here's a "big kids" chair in lavender denim. I think it would look great with a comfy pillow and cozy throw.

Just another idea to throw out there - what about a day bed? They come in so many sizes, and could serve as both a luxurious reading spot for your daughter and also as an extra bed for overnight guests?

It could be just me, that lavender chair is cute but looks like it would itch?

JC Penney has a precious blue chenille "Child's Dream Chair" marked down to $110.99 and it has a little more height - 31" tall. Only available in blue chenille, though. Would blue work for you?

Also Penney's has a "Custom Kid's Tween Chaise" - $239 - something your daughter could use until she's 16 or so, and they offer several different pink prints and solids.

Lots of choices.....how fun, huh!

I'd get a good quality club chair in a suitably sturdy and dirt resistant fabric, and some nice pillows and a throw rug for it so it didn't look too grown up. When she becomes a teen it will be easy for her to change the look by changing the pillows. Then when she eventually gets old enough to move out, the club chair, by now a bit battered, can go with her.

Of course I'd be buying from the local thrift shop, so price would be less of an issue.

Chicory, that chair looks really cute there. I'm not sure about the fabric though. Denim doesn't sound cozy to me but I like the lines. I was just worried how low they all are though.

roguevalley, a window seat does sound inviting. I know I need to get her some window treatments too. We had put curtains on hold for the whole house until round two of the budget. Just moved in 6 months ago and it sucked us dry!

windypoint, that's kind of what hubby was thinking too. Something that would last. You're making me tear up though...talking about moving out. It does go by so fast, doesn't it?

Ohhh Wodka...I think you might have found the winner. I love the Tween Chaise from Penney's. It comes in a velour lavender that looks soft and comfy. (thanks for all the other ideas above too...you've been googling like a mad man...THANKS) What does everyone think of this one wodka found?

Lindy, thanks. It's so fun googling and searching for what all is available nowadays. (What would we do without the Internet, except probably have cleaner houses - ha.) From what you described, this sounded like it would be perfect for your daughter to use now and and years to come.

I'll be watching this thread to see what you come up with. I almost bought my kids (dd, 5 and ds 7) the PB chair for Christmas this past year. They have a futon they sit on and are constantly fighting over who gets to sit in which place, so I thought these chairs would solve that problem. Anyhow, I still have the problem and will watch to see what chair you come up with.

I'd spring for a club chair. I've got a sofa we got from IKEA ages ago that is made of foam with no frame and it is really hard on your back. You always slip out of it because there is no support on the front of the seat. It just sags down to the floor.

I vote for the chaise. Looks like a great spot to spread out homework or read a good book. When I was a kid, even though I had a desk in my room, I always spread out to do my homework on the bed or the floor. Would have loved a chair like that.

The purple chaise looks perfect for a darling little purple horsie room:)

Well wouldn't you know my luck...I have fallen in love with that Purple Chaise and Penney's website is saying it's not in stock (no future date given) Figures! I did find it on another website for the same price as Penney's but only in Pink. Look how cute it looked with the purple and a floor lamp I found on Ebay for only $54. So now I'm googling again. OR I could just get it in pink...hmmmm? THANKS for all your help everyone!

How about adding a long white shelf over each window -- for more of her "horse" collectibles?? Then remove the small shelf to the left of the bed -- and hang it on the left-hand side of the desk area. THEN you'll have room for a white bookcase! ((yes -- I AM a pest about bookshelves!! LOL!!))

I checked the penney's website. They also have a pale yellow in that soft fabbric. I think either the yellow or pink would be very cute. You could get a chenille throw in a soft plaid that has blues, purples, yellows and pinks to tie it together.

LOL teacats! Were you a librarian? Just kidding...I added a bookshelf in the back..I think we can squeeze one in somehow. I did want a READING area, didn't I? I also like the polka dot chaise you found at Target because it's a bit longer than the Penney's one. A small child could sleep there easily. Here's a quick mock up of the pink one with a cute lavender pillow and the bookshelf.

I just love reading -- and that whole reading-while-surrounded by bookshelves coziness picture!! LOL! Besides -- readers "tend" to collect books ......

And I think that will be a wonderful reading corner!! LOVE the lamp! And the bookshelf too --- of course! LOL!
