I'll be watching this post Betsy. I've thought about her SO MANY times and am really getting concerned. Wish she would have taught Jammer how to post before her surgery.

Yes, Summer, I wish Jammer would post. I thought about calling but I don't want to bother them if she is resting. It's only been a week ago today that she had the surgery.

I know what you mean Betsy. I'm always afraid I'm gonna be bothering someone if I call. Especially at a time like this. She had a very major surgery and I imagine it's gonna take a little longer than some recoveries for her to get the wind back under her sails.

I'm thinking of her too, and saying prayers for her recovery.

My 3-5 day hospital stay turned into 7 days. I needed to be there, so wasn't in a hurry. I thought I was so tough, but , boy, this surgery was tougher!

I came home Sunday night, and yesterday a good friend spent the day with me. Today I'm on my own. I'm feeling okay, but still very sore.

The doctor advised me to drink a pint of an electrolite drink every day. I'm don't really like Gatorade, but drank it anyway. Does anyone know of a different drink that might be better?

Glad they kept you around a little longer so you could be more comfortable about coming home.

I can't help you with the re-hydrating drinks MaryAnn. All I've ever known was the Gatorade. I'm sure someone here can help you though.

Hi, sweetie! Thanks for checking in, we were getting worried! The only other drink I know of is Pedialyte, not sure if I spelled that right, it's used for babies and toddlers. Also used for animals.... I'll do some googling for you...

I'm so glad you're OK, I didn't want to say anything before, but when Bobbie had the surgery, she said it was the hardest thing she ever went thru. So you're doing great, kid! Keep up the good recovery!

I found this, MaryAnn....

Patients can manage many of the side effects of treatment. Knowing that surgery can lead to fluid and electrolyte loss, patients can supplement their diet with as many caffeine- and alcohol-free drinks as possible, and with sports drinks with electrolytes and liquid supplements, such as Ensure, Boost®, Carnation® Instant Breakfast®, etc. Surgery can also cause the mal-absorption of some vitamins; patients can add a regular multivitamin supplement to the diet.

Mary Ann, so glad to see you here. I'm sorry to hear your hospital stay was a bit longer than anticipated, but it's good to know you are back at home.

How about trying Vitamin water? I don't know if it has as many electrolytes as Gatorade, but it might be a good thing to sip on. I've only tasted two of their flavors, and they were both pretty subtle. I'll post a link to a list of their ingredients. Take care!

Glad you're home and are able to check in. I can't help you with any advice on electrolite drinks. Maybe some of the stuff others have mentioned will taste better than Gator Ade. Hope you feel a lot better real soon.

Somehow I missed that you were queued up for surgery, so I'm doing double time on my best thoughts.
Hmmm, might gatoraid popsicles be more appealing? Maybe a gatoraid slushie would go down better? gatoraid and rum? (prolly not a good idea.)

Vitimin Water has no taste to me, it taste just like Water. I drink it when I am working outside in hot weather. It was referred to my Brother by his Transplant Team.

I like to have a V-8 when I'm feeling droopy.

I sure hope you will feel stronger soon and so glad that you did so well with the surgery.

Crystal lite has those little packets that you add to a 16oz bottle of water that has electrolytes in them.Propel make a very good flavored water with vitamins etc also.

"Here is a recipe for homemade Pedialyte. It is very important for babies and children not to become dehydrated when they're sick! Use instead of juice or milk for diarrhea, vomiting, and fever. This will not aggravate a sick tummy.

2 quarts water
1-teaspoon baking soda
1-teaspoon salt
7 Tablespoons sugar
1 packet Sugar-Free Kool-Aid
1/2-teaspoon salt substitute

The salt substitute and Kool-Aid are optional. Store in the refrigerator. Be creative; use your special Kool-Aid to make ice cubes so it will stay cool in their bottle or sippy-cup. Or, insert toothpicks into your ice cubes before freezing and make homemade popsicles."
