Non-negotiable generally means that, either they go here, or they go nowhere. Sadly, my remuddled 1920's house just doesn't have very many walls where things can be hung of this size. We don't even have a single bedroom where there is more than 30" of continuous wall space where you won't run into a wall, a door, or a (don't even ask) sliding hollow core "barn door". Then, add in the complication that someone decided to build a gigantic closet between two rooms so that the windows die into the corner formed by the closet. The second floor is really a wreck thanks to remuddling that we cannot afford to remedy at this point. We were able to smooth out some of the first floor wrinkles, but we couldn't perform miracles in terms of reworking the space. It's funny, all these case goods seemed so *tiny* in our house with 15' ceilings, but in this little 1920s cottage they seem immense. The lamps go even less with my living room than with the foyer in my mind, so I'm genuinely surprised at the suggestions to put them in the family room! As you can see the foyer table/former buffet is 68" and it is the *only* wall in the entire downstairs where it had any hope of fitting. This is what I mean about tiny wall spaces. Theoretically, it would fit on one wall in the dining room, but then we couldn't have a rug in there. The layout of this house has been a complication, for sure! And the foyer is small...a 4x6 rug is the only size that will fit in there because of where the stair landing falls. I'm going to mock up some of these suggestions and see where that gets me. Ideally, I'd love to have an open console table in the foyer, but then I'd have nowhere to put that (expensive) buffet and I think my husband would kill me...

I went to the store and grabbed a couple of things. I am so horrible accessories and even worse with floral things. LOL. I will take pics of my finds asap. Justgottobeamom, thanks so much. I love pics of my gang and like to have them everywhere. I tried to place the plates on the lamp but it won't work. The base is too narrow and slanted. Renofan, so you think I should move the pics. Hmm...I will give it a go this afternoon when dh gets home. I make too many holes in the wall. LOL. I know he is going to fuss and say leave them alone. Men! I like the arrangement that you show. Otherwise, do you think any of my new items work? Bestyears, that does sound really fun. I picked up a blue pumpkin which ties into the blue ceiling. Actually my 7 yr old dd found it and wanted me to add it. I also found some other items that are more fall. Will post pics soon. I am sure I will change things out seasonally though. Ideefixe, funny you should ask. Up until now, the foyer has held all of our furniture from remodel rooms. LOL. We couldn't even use the door. Uggh! Now that those rooms are finished, I want to finish this room and have it look stunning like I know it can. (maybe someone else might have to decorate it though.) To answer your questions, yes, I was thinking of the basket to drop our keys in. We don't really have a problem dropping clutter when we come in so I don't worry too much about that. However it would look nicer to have a small basket for our cells and keys. I was thinking the vases could hold flowers. Oh, we have a mirror on the opposite wall with pegs that hold our dog leads, etc.

Hi pps - It is the small RH industrial table. I've had my eye on it for awhile but DH said he'd make one for me (he's great at welding). He's always busy with house projects though and I happened to see this while shopping at the outlets so it came home with me. I lucked out - less than half price after their 20% sale and no damage at all! I like the size of the side table but don't want matching pieces so I'm still looking for one of those. anna - love the "tail of death" phrase!

It's a very beautiful home. You don't really need anything under the sconces. Of course you could keep chairs there, or an alive plant..but they will look great as they are. If you don't want to put an art on the walls behind the servers..put art on the servers themselves:) I understand the candlesticks need to stay on one of them..I'd remove all the small things unless they have to be there, or put them close together on a tray or something, and maybe add a vase with flowers right behind the candlesticks? a very thin one, maybe also silver one. Say, with one rose in it. Unless you think it will make the server too crowded and harder to use when it's getting used. To put my thought in a short way-I'd strive to create there an odd number of pieces, and the object X number three I'd try to make taller than candlesticks..but very very understated and discreet in a way that won't overwhelm them. Or-I could go for one object shorter and wider than the candlesticks..in which case I'd choose something darker, meaningful to you but that you have to come closer to look at it..family photo? On the other server then I'd put an art, something bigger and sculptural...maybe a sculpture. Maybe a sculptural interesting lamp..Maybe a clock-some clocks are incredibly beautiful. Then you'll see whether you want a mirror on that wall or not. Art works great with wallpaper..but in your dining room..I see how you don't want a) to maybe take away from wallpaper. You won't but it takes big adjustment and I'd probably feel the same, at least until I was ready b)it needs to be really special art..very special to you. Maybe you have it already but don't want to move it from one space to another. Happens to me all the time, hence the guess:) As for the arrangement on the table. I'd probably keep to flowers. It will keep things fresh like nothing else since flowers are never the same. Probably two vases if it's something medium sized like roses. One vase if it's something big..flowering branches, say.
