Do You Still Have Snow?

There is no snow here. It is to get into the 60's today here in central Indiana. Rain is to move in for the weekend sometime and by Sunday afternoon we may have a heavy wet snow again. So I will enjoy today while it is here. How is your day, I hope it is a good one.

No, it was 85 yesterday. We went directly from winter to summer. Seriously, we'll have milder weather between now and end of June, just having a little heat wave.

We could use more of that rain you'll be getting. Had to start running sprinklers yesterday.

Absolutely. :) I sprouted my forget me nots inside (should have ws'd them) and they sprouted just fine. So they must not need any cold strat. Looking at the FAQ page, capanula, dianthus, and foxgloves are all good candidates for spring and summer sowing as well. Which means a cold period is not required for germination. These would also be good for starting now.

Well we certainly have more snow now, probably about 6"-8". Terry, I used to have about 75 to 100 Hybrid Teas and each year, I would plant them with the bulb union about 6" deep and then in the fall, cut them back to about a foot, cover with peat moss, about 8-10 bales, then cover with pieces of old carpet. Then in the spring, take the carpet off, and slowly remove the peat moss. Took hours of work in the fall and in the spring. The roses were absolutley beautiful and each year, no matter how careful, I would lose 6-8 roses anyway. One year, about 12 years ago when we had a particularly bad winter, I lost half of the roses and that was it. It was hearbreaking, not to mention very expensive. Every once in a while, I still do buy some plants that are borderline, like I bought 2 shrubs at $35.00 each, can't remember their exact name but they were some Japanese name I think with lovely pink and green leaves, protected them over the winter but they died. And then, I did it again the next summer! Dumb! Anyway, I still have some Oriental and Trumpet Lilies that I buy but they are all planted on the south side of the house where the wind piles up the snow in the winter. However, I can certainly understand why we as gardeners do what we do. It's cause we love it! Nope! We have a Bobcat! Too much snow for a snow blower here! LOL DD just bought a Sears Craftsman. Darn if I know anything about it. It was in your price range I believe. She bought it in Sept when they had 20% off I think it was? Sorry I didn't pay more attention now. The neighbor guy came over in October and borrowed it! ;) He is a nice guy and has done a lot for her. She is going to test her snowblowing skills this afternoon for the first time. She is alone too and said she couldn't depend on the neighbor to come with this 4 wheeler and blade and clean her out all winter. He's done it since she and the boys moved 3 years ago or she'd have had to hire it done or do a lot of shoveling! I hope its easy for her to handle! Hope you find a good one too!

We used to make that all the time until sometime in the 1970s when we no longer had snow every winter. I made ours the same way Charlene does. One night at work we made some during break time. Someone had brought some sweetened, condensed milk to use in it. It sure was good. Linda

NO. Just like Judy, I had my windows open yesterday. First time the house had been aired out since I don't know when. Today it is supposed to be in the low 60s. Rain or light snow forecast for the weekend. Some places in Iowa will likely flood but not here.

No snow here finally.....although we were beginning to wonder if we'd be mowing around snow piles. The only snow they're predicting for my part of Ohio is maybe some flurries Sunday into Monday. Highs are in the low 60s during the day this week but will go back to mid 40s by next week.

Just a few little heaps here and there, but I know we will have some yet. The past two years, we've had a LOT in April.

Just a little strip along the shady side of the fence. I've been sitting outside in my swinging chair this week. Yay!

out in the yard right now. but that will change in a couple hours.

All clear here in Long Island NY. It was 69 yesterday, forcast for today is 65 degrees. Spring here!

here in SD we still have some snow and south of us is supposed to get more this weekend. Was in ND over the weekend and my brother told me along the roads the snow is probably 10 feet high in some places yet

There are a few piles in the Coliseum parking lot but the rest is gone. Higher elevations still have some.
