Help-two-tone color option for bedroom

I have a large master bedroom with a tall ceiling an odd angles. Most of the walls (and the hallway) seem to be BM color hay stack or yellow lotus (light yellow beige). The accent wall is a medium grey blue currently. I'm not crazy about greyness and wanted to redo the color to either a light or dark blue or green (not blue-green) or something in the golden range. I would love some suggestions. We are receiving my MIL queen anne style medium oak bedroom furniture. Not my style but it is free and in perfect condition. I am also wondering if it is okay that most of my rooms are a different color or should they all be in the same families? I have a big 4 bedroom house.

Tall ceiling and odd angles, hmmm. Do you think you need an accent wall. A simple solution would be to just paint to match all the other walls and angles.

Sure it's okay as long as you like the way it looks. Opinions on what makes for good *flow* room to room vary. They are only opinions and "should be's" are subjective. However, color harmony is color harmony.

Color harmony simply means that you like the way the colors *go* together. The way they relate to one another. The way each individual color meshes and plays well with the other colors around it. Color harmonies aren't flat and boring and they aren't disconnected and spastic.

For some people color harmony in their home means even keeled color transitions without big leaps in contrasts. Other people like to see some definition room to room and they like to use bigger contrasts to help define and order their house.

If room to room, down hallways and around corners you feel a sense of color harmony, then it flows. Color harmony comes in various forms and indeed one of those forms is using color room to room from same *families* but it's not the only way to go about it. And if you do stick to *families* or another way that's popular is one strip of color, then you have to be really careful it doesn't turn out to be a snoozefest of a color combo. Same *families* doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be easier to pull off.

Scroll down and click on Greens, Blues or Golds to see pictures of rooms in different shades of those colors. You might see something that you really like.

It's nice to have a hallway in a neutral shade because you will see it in conjunction with the shades in rooms off the hallway.

Blues and greens are popular shades for bedrooms because cool colors are restful colors (from a color psychology standpoint).

Some blues or greens, if they are too light, can look "nursery" (baby blue-mint green), so my suggestion would be to choose a slightly "grayed" blue or green and not too light. With golds, careful not to go too yellow because a little bit of yellow goes a long way.

Consider purchasing sample jars of paint ($5 or so) from SW or BM in a few of the colors you like, paint them on some foamboard and in the room and see what you think. That is REALLY helpful.

There's not rule of thumb about what colors to paint your different bedrooms. On my second story, I have two bedrooms in front and three in back. I have the two on the left side painted the same shade (SW Comfort Gray), the two on the right the same (SW Krypton) and the one in the middle back a neutral shade (SW Believable Buff). The foyer is a neutral beige. It wasn't always that way. When my kids were young and at home, they picked their colors and it was a real hodge-podge.

Glad you returned the curtains, because I LOVE the paisley bedding, but the curtains were a disconnect. Honestly, I would replace the dark shades on the lamps. I love the shape, but I think the dark grey just disappears against the paint color, and also is less effective lighting. White ones would really help the lamps be more important visually. I would not fold the paisley bedding down and have mostly white bedding. Your room is all solids, the paisley makes the bed a focal point. I would turn the sham on the right so that the pattern matches the direction of the rest of the bedding. I would also lose the piece over the bed - it just doesn't feel like it works with the rest of the design. A fresh feeling landscape with lots of the green tones would be nice, and add to the restful feeling of the space. I would get an interesting grey pillow of some sort to put on the green chair. Take the grey throw off the bed, as it really doesn't feel large enough to add anything, and perhaps put that over one arm of the chair. Add a smaller pewter bowl filled with granny smith green apples or green hydrangea on one of the nightstands, and find a new home for the white framed pix. I would get thinner, silver frames and do those and the other two on the wall by the chair in a grouping.

What are you doing with those bedrooms? Are you thinking about selling anytime soon? My spouse has allergies, so we like a hard surface in the BR. In your case, I would put something in that matches the Pergo floors. (I agree that stuff holds up great. My mom put it in her bathroom 17 years ago. She hated it when it was installed, but it looks exactly the same and has not aged a bit). However, for secondary BRs, I'd tend to go with carpet. These are often children's rooms. The carpet gives them a soft surface (kids are always on the floor) and helps with noise. Unless you are doing something else with those BRs.

You need to take into consideration from where the natural light comes. One accent wall, only; the wall behind your bed. Because you want red, I hope the light is coming from the North. Million Dollar Red will work. B.M. Seapearl for the three walls. Or B.M Cascade White for three walls.

I would attempt a colour match as best as I could. The concept of flow comes from COLOURS more than it comes from materials. That's why you often see houses with carpet that is a PERFECT MATCH to kitchen tiles AND to a wood floor. All three materials will MATCH perfectly = flow. If you change to a lighter colour of wood you will want to work with a colour that is PERFECTLY matched to the tile. If that isn't possible then you want to match the WOOD floors as closely as possible. If you don't, you will start going down the "theme room rabbit hole". Gone are the days where purple shag (tri-coloured no less!) is in one room, avocado shag in another and then red/black disco Berber another.

The accent wall runs along the front of the house and has a half moon window that is in the center of the front of our house and in the middle of our bathroom. The wall unites the bed and bath area that makes a sort of "U" shape. The rest of the room is the beige/yellow color. HTH?

Maybe I will buy the samples and see what DH thinks but he has very little imagination and I have an artist friend who tends to be way too creative so maybe I should pick the one neither of them likes... LOL

Samples are a start without making a big outlay, then finding out the gallon of paint you bought at $45 or so doesn't work.

I've even mixed two samples together (a green that was too yellow and a green that was too blue) and got the perfect shade. Fortunately, there was a shade almost identical on a color strip, so I didn't have to get a custom blend. I've also mixed white in with a sample if I thought the color was too dark.

A real pretty green that is not too blue or yellow is SW Clary Sage (or one shade lighter on the same strip). A popular grayed green is SW Svelte Sage. Popular golden colors are SW Ivoire, Blond, Whole Wheat and Tobacco Road (which you have to ask about bec. they don't have a strip of it). BM Shelburne Buff is pretty close to Tobacco Road. BM Dry Sage is also highly recommended. Those are some starting places for you of colors that seem to be universally liked.
