I vote for a large area in the basement. Who wants to enter the building through the laundry room? I certainly don't want that when I come home, and I love laundry! My laundry (washers, sink, etc.) are in the basement and I don't find it inconvenient, in the least. My dryers, ironing tackle and sewing room are on the first floor however. I dry out of doors all most all the time so the "drying room" gets used mostly for sorting, folding, ironing etc. It's wonderful to have a waystation for all the textiles that keeps them out of the living area. Laundry, for me, always involves sorting and baskets of "in process" items which I wouldn't want standing around in my upstairs hallways, my entrance room or mudroom. I'd much rather have it out of sight. If I lived in a modern house with a dry finished basement, I would combine the washing room with the dryer room with ironing and sewing thrown in located in the basement. But my house is very old (c1840) and the basement would never be suitable for ironing or drying space, so I content myself with keeping only the washers there, in a space I have combined with my flower arranging workroom and my household utility sinks in the same section of the basement. That way combines all the plumbing needs economically. Molly~

mammapinky Yes, they are. I did that on purpose. I wanted a different illusion than just the mirrors hanging, if that makes sense. I want the mirrors and curtains anchoring the bed, like a headboard. Thank you! To everyone mentioning the mirror height, don't tell my husband! (lol) He absolutely hates hanging curtains, shelves, mirrors and paintings. haha I'll have to wait to the weekend or a day we both have the time and we shall raise them. I'll have to ease him into it. ;) Should they go the same height as the curtains? pets and kids w/dark floors and you will be cleaning them daily. they show every hair, dust mote and crumb. no shoes in the place will help, but you will still see hairs and such. few options. My mud room is in the basement, and there is no heat duct. I am on a farm, and get wet and muddy. I am going out in weather appropriate gear, so if it’s raining, I am in a raincoat and boots. They drip dry just fine in a few hours. The only thing that gets wet that I need to throw in the dryer are my Carhartts bibs; they are warm but not water resistant. Oh and the dog. He’s an Aussie and takes a few hours to dry when he gets wet. Your set up will be fine, just keep a laundry basket in there for the few times you will need to toss a couple things in the dryer. I have ceramic tile and it mops up great. A couple scatter rugs allow me to remove boots (into a boot tray) and get into slippers without standing on the cold floor. It’s really not an issue at all. My rain gear drips dry plenty fast enough. It’s honestly better to dress and undress for below freezing weather in a cool room rather than the heated house.
