What are your preferred ways to find a GOOD new Doctor?

Do you ask your friends/relatives or do you try to find information such as patient reviews on the web?

How about when you relocated to a new state/city? Trial/error?

Do you tend to narrow down your choices based on the number of years in practice? What's most important to you?

I am trying to find a good Primary Care Physician and I don't know where to start with my search. All I find is a long list of names, but I haven't been able to find much else. A good friend of mine recommended me her doctor and he sounds like a really good one, but the problem is that he's in his 70s and -as my friend pointed out- really close to retirement, so if he decided to retire in a year or so, I'd be back to square one. I just don't care to be changing doctors all the time, so I am hoping to find a really good one that I could feel comfortable with and have that doctor for a long time. That's the only reason why I haven't really considered him.

What would you do?

Any suggestions would be very appreciated!

Thanks!

LF
