Pop-up downdraft behind my slide-in stove.?
Comments (24)cfitz134, You will need two downdrafts for it to work on the sides of the units or you will only be able to effectively use the downdraft on the side that it is mounted. Gaggenau used to sell a side mounted downdraft that was well rated because it extended above the cooking surface directly. It was discontinued in the US and you would still need two of them. you may be able to find these on eBay. You will also lose considerable counter and cabinet space. Gaggenau VL 051 older model that swings into place. This the Gaggenau replacement (Vario Model VL414) for the older model but it fights the laws of physics. Good luck!...See MoreCounter height issues after adding 6 cm granite (3 cm with 3cm edge)
Comments (35)Hi All, Thanks so very much to everyone for their help! We finished most of our kitchen (only need the backsplash) and after the helpful debate here on this board, and working with our installer and the granite fabricator, we wound up with an incredible 6 cm, stepped edge counter! Everything fit perfectly, including the stove, dishwasher, etc. I know there were a couple of people here who expressed doubt this was possible or would work out very well, but after doing the math on my own, listening to the more supportive comments on this board (thank you!) and speaking with the team here, we proceeded with our dream kitchen counters and it worked fantastically! I spent a ton of time with the shop guys at the fabricator and detailed exactly where I wanted the cuts for the laminated, stepped edge and the average person cannot tell it is a laminated... the granite lines up perfectly and no obvious seam since it is stepped! Have a look and please let me know what you think of the outcome!...See MorePlease please help me replace my range
Comments (13)A range top with an oven below is possible and you would need a cabinet but presumably you could get a cabinetmaker to do a matching one. This look is very trendy but I personally don't understand it - aside from aesthetics. The oven in almost all instances is placed lower than a standard range and there doesn't seem to be any increase in functionality for the trade off but it looks sleeker than a stove which is why people with limited space kitchens will do it. I have never seen it done where there is the ability to actually have a wall oven at a comfortable height. People who switch from gas to induction are generally quite happy after adjusting and there are real benefits to induction versus gas. One benefit is that if you are using a down draft, an induction doesn't need as much venting capability as a gas would. Of course what you cook is going to impact venting needs as well....See MoreNew stove is lower than backsplash, ideas needed
Comments (45)I had your exact problem last summer. I got a new drop in stove and needed a 4" piece of granite to span the area that had been covered by the old stove's controls. I took a close up picture of my existing granite (12 yrs old), and went to my local stoneyard. They were able to find a remnant that was really a close match. They cut it to fit and installed it and no one can tell that it's slightly different....See Moremayhemingway
