MBR-update - long +pics

Thanks to all of you who have been helping me put together my mbr/sitting room combo. It is still very frustrating to me but I am having a breakthrough (not a breakdown LOL!).

Ellen and I have been communicating and we are going to firm up the colors for most of the house at the end of next week. She wanted me to take a look at a few of the new colors before I made my final decision. The painter came today and we firmed up the date and totalled the number of gallons (wow - lots!) I need to order.

But back to the mbr - I have decided to go with Cognac. I have been leaning that way for awhile and it seems to be a color DH can live with (he doesn't like a lot of color). So I am going to put Cognac in the sitting room and main bedroom area and then Parchment in the dressing area and perhaps into the bathroom too though I may change that to Terracotta Sand.

Here are some pictures now that the new table came in and we had the pictures framed. I also bought the plant today and a new pot - thanks to those who suggested where I could get them (at the garden store).

Someone PLEASE tell me that the large picture over the table is toooo large and that the little pictures off to the right are too far away. I really like the smaller picture (the one in the gray mat) so I may put that on that wall and it should look better with that table.

The pink chair is not staying!

Don't forget I will have drapes on the windows so it should fill up the area and with the paint it should make the room feel cozier and not so cavernous. The plant shouldn't look like it sits out there in the open once the drapes go in.

Well, I just wanted to give you all an update. Now that my decision is made I can't wait for the paint!!!

Oh btw - the colors we will be using are: Edgewood Green (thanks to the K's for suggesting that for the livingroom combo - Ellen agreed), Gustavian Grey (library), Wheat (most of the interior), Berry Red (for the bathroom), Aqua for the jack and jill bath, Cognac, Parchment or T Sand. Lots of colors!!!

From bed area - remember the pink chair is not staying. I am going to buy another one and put a lamp over in that area.

New Mirror - bought it so that it would take up a lot of wall space and we didn't have a full length mirror in the bedroom. I didn't realize just how big it was until it arrived!

Smaller picture - I think it should replace to big one over the table.

Ok, that's probably enough to bore you all!!

What off white is that on the walls now?

The colors you've picked sound wonderful. Your house is going to be beautiful.

Love the oversized mirror! I do think the picture above the table is too large. Do you have a HomeGoods store? I am in love with some of their slight curved not quite double chairs and think your room could handle a little curve somewhere. I think you need something like an ottoman if you do a single chair. Also think about one main chair and one smaller one with a little round "let's have coffee or wine" table between them. Plant looks great and can stay there or even move to between the pillers on the tv side to warm the tv area and so on...for what it is worth! It is going to be beautiful!

Thanks Alex. Hoping to get the bananas again this summer though earlier. I didn't cut the trunk down at all on the Ice cream variety that I have. I just planted it and it has about 6 ft of trunk. So I'm hoping it continues where it left off last year. Already started to grow, but this weather has me worried these next few days. Rob

Thanks for all your kind words! OK, I don't need the loveseat in this room, but I really like having it there. LOL. I really don't have another place for it. We actually have a set of two of these--they are incredibly threadbare, but otherwise still very solid. They are actually the best quality furniture we've ever had! The other one is sitting in the basement since we got our new LR furniture. The loveseat corner IS a little tight--I will have to give this whole issue some thought...

I also thought about doing panels on those two windows and stacked back to the outsides. But if you ever wanted to close them, I donÃ¢ÂÂt know that you would be able to do that without them hitting the rad. I think the idea of roman shades is lovely. I like the first trim the best. but I am a bit concerned that it is not quite wide enough to make any difference. I would just do it on the bottom of the shade, a couple of inches up from the edge, but I think I would consider addding a narrower grey ribbon on either side of the 1Ã¢ÂÂ grey, with just a little breathing space between them. Just wondering if the linen will be substantial enough to hold the roman shade pleats? Will the blackout lining make the fabric crisp enough to hold over time? In the alternative, you could leave the trim off the body of the blinds, but do a small self valance and put the trim an inch or two in from the edge of that. Great way to pull the eye up in the space, too. A very restful, pretty space.

I can't tell you enough how flattered I am reading your comments. Honestly after I wrote the initial thread and before posting it I looked back at the pictures and thought how 'ho-hum' it looks in pictures. I almost didn't post it. I've been stressing out at work a lot and each time I walk into my MBR I feel like the world has floated away and there are no running thoughts. There is no chaos in my head about what needs done or how I am going to accomplish it and I didn't feel like that was 'conveyed' via the pictures. I'm going to get new pillows next week - 4 total since I like the 'stacked' look. It bugs me how boxy and flat memory foam mattresses are. There's just no 'soft' look to them. Jen9 - I love a little bouquet of flowers. I usually have a little silver mint julep cup of them on my bedside table when things are blooming in my garden. I wanted to treat myself this Christmas and for once decorate the MBR (one of the reasons I pushed so hard to get to this point). I have some greens waiting to go into a cup for my side. Oceanna. I used to have a blue ceiling in my entry hall before I painted it black. It was so refreshing! I'm going w/ grey in my MBR to tie together the grey ceilings downstairs and the upstairs. I love the 'moodiness' of my grey ceilings w/ the bright white walls. Sort of gives me the same feeling I get on a crisp Fall day when a storm may be brewing. Crazy - I know! Blue ceiling (MS Garden Clogs) w/ greige walls (MS Sandpiper) both from old SW line: The chandelier to be hung: Lynne2006 - the bed is the Savannah bed from Bombay Co. Hmmmm deedee - I've never fully nailed down a name for my 'line' of goods and/or storefront but you've given me a jumping off point. Again - thank you all very much!

I think the pix above the console table is fine - the lamp is way too small, tho. And the two little pix to the right kind of feel like they were just stuck there for no reason.

I would move the console table to the left so that the outlet is behind the left side of the console. Move the large pix over it. Get a bigger lamp and put it on the right end of the table. Move the chair to the right corner by the console table for now, and put the plant in the corner where the chair was Find a new home for the small pix (perhaps on the wall opposite the window?)

When you get ready to replace the pink chair, consider a chaise instead - it will fill the space better and take advantage of the open floor space, etc.

Chicory - Hey - I left a message for you on the thread that you posted regarding the clock. I showed DH your post and low and behold - guess what I got for Christmas?? Yes, the clock! I was stunned! We both love the clock and check it out every day. Thanks for posting it. Yes, that is builder white and it's about time to get rid of it!

Noodles and Les - I was planning on getting a very comfortable chair and ottoman for that spot. The ottoman I am looking at does have a rounded back to soften the area.

What size lamp should I get? A tall one or squatty fat one?

I put the two pictures next to the big one bc they share the same frame and I thought things should be in 3's. DH just hammered them there so I was planning on moving the pictures when the painter comes :) I can put the two little ones over next to the mirror on the right side. There is room there and I don't think they will interfere with the curtains once they go up.

Oh I noticed that my fabric and paint samples are still up on the wall! LOL
