Crease or no Crease

Do you like a crease in your jeans/pants? When I young my mom made sure every pair of pantÂs we wore had a nice ironed crease.

I donÂt like a crease anymore. I prefer not to have one, except on a couple of trousers slacks that came that way from the store.

Just wonder if you prefer a crease or not.

Have to have a crease, even my sweats.
Perfect crease down the legs and perfect crease down the arms.
I know that's a little anal to be ironing sweat clothes. LOL

I think the problem is caused by how washing machines now work compared to how they worked 20 years ago. I have a new top loader, without the traditional center post agitator. Washing the top sheet separately, on "delicate" setting and "deep fill". Wastes water though. Iron the hem as soon as the spin cycle stops, before going in the dryer. Older machines used to fill the tub with water, which probably resulted in less compressing of the items being washed, which resulted in less creasing during the wash cycle. Now, washing machines on normal cycles use much less water, so the items being washed appear to be subject to more compressing. The hems appear to bend more during that process than the lighter edges. Also, the spin cycle is faster with newer washing machines. I suspect that the low spin cycle on a newer machine is still noticeably faster than the low spin cycle on a washing machine made 20 years ago. If you wash the top sheet by hand in a tub, I suspect there would be no creasing on the top hem, but who wants to do that every week.

Ah yes, the thrift store bag...that's where these came from too! I consider such purchases the purest expression of my past life as a magpie, since I have *no* knowledge of knitting/crocheting, I just like pretty yarn LOL! Good idea to volunteer at the thrift shop, although at ours the employees aren't allowed to purchase anything for three days. That would drive me crazy. We found something I've been looking for *forever* yesterday, some excellent-condition interesting-lined truly Danish teak nesting tables--they went out yesterday and I plucked them right off the floor--if I'd had to wait 3 days they'd definitely have been gone with the active vulture population around where I live :)

I bought a beautiful Surya 8 x 10 highly patterned wool area rug to use over neutral nylon wall to wall carpet in our den. Almost immediately a long narrow crease appeared that's not only ugly but dangerous. I've almost tripped over it several times. Local carpet stores either say nothing can be done or they're just not interested in trying. We live in the California desert - very hot, very dry - 4 months of the year. Crease is right next to sliding glass door. So lots of hot dry air. Was thinking of pouring a large amount of water on crease and then placing something very heavy over layers of towels on the crease to flatten it out while it dries. My other thought was taking a very thin razor blade or very fine sharp knife and slitting the crease in several places in order to let the fibers in the crease relax. I know both of these ideas may sound damaging and absurd, but no more absurd than tripping over the crease and damaging myself. I know there are many of us out here with this same problem, and would very much appreciate any comments or ideas.

Bunny - That's a lot of work. I am trying to avoid all that. But I did contemplate buying the 118" and hemming them with tape in case the 98" were not long enough. I never did plan to wash them. I had read a couple of reviews where that takes some of the stiffness out of the panels and they don't hang as well. I had also read a review where a user popped the panels in the dryer with a wet rag and they came out beautifully. Obviously that did not happen for me. :( Did you iron all of yours after hemming? The curtains are to brighten the bedroom up for a future resale. I didn't see the need to wash. We don't have cats, and do not close the curtains. They may get a little dusty, but we will be long gone by then. Or if we decide to take the curtains with us, I can shake them out. And then I will have to get the wrinkle out again. I started the steaming in the garage this morning. Worked out a neat hanging system. However, I have a stinky, large model, handheld steamer. I have to be careful not to burn my hands. I wish it had a long wand. With some work, the wrinkles and creases are coming out...slowly. I had read another review where someone sprayed cold water all over the hanging panels with a water bottle and the wrinkles came out from the weight. I am trying that on a couple of sections. Also sprayed one area with fabric wrinkle release. But the chemicals will kill me if I keep that up! So far, nothing is drying because it is a cool and damp day out. I think if it were warmer, and the sun was out, I could see quicker results. Anyway, the good news is that I have regained 2" so far in the length. That's enough to blend in with the other curtain panels. I will have two sets on two larger window openings, and a set each on either side of the bed that will be mostly hidden by bedside tables and bed post.

No in jeans and casual pants/slacks. Yes sometimes, depending on the silhouette of the slacks. A slimmer leg will sometimes get a crease, but a wider leg, hardly ever.

Some of my jeans have a crease line in them. ONLY because they came that way when I bought them. The jeans I wear nowdays don't look right ironed to me, with the flare bottoms.

Creases, and starch!

Bestlawn, it is perfectly normal to iron sweats and teeshirts. Trust me on this one. LOL

I'll confess, I find ironing to be relaxing.

A couple months ago I had to send a pair of dress pants back to the cleaners, three times in a row, to get them to put a proper crease in the legs. They looked so mangled I had to finally insist they re-wash, starch, and crease them correctly.

Back in the day (where did that saying come from anyway?) when designer jeans were all a big deal I ironed our jeans.
But not now, although, I fold them so there is a crease. Dress pants must have a crease. I hang my Tshirts direct from the dryer so no ironing needed.

Jeans, heavens no. NEVER. Some slacks yes, but I am really not much of a slacks person. :)

Besides, my ironing is on a less is better plan. :)

I put a crease in most pants. I hate it when the dry cleaner presses a crease in the wrong place. I'm another who likes to iron...I think it's cause I can see instant results.

It depends on how dressy the blouse I'm going to wear is. If it's light and dressy, no crease but the pant still get pressed. If it's casual or business-like, a nice sharp edge.

Well, I guess I must be quite the sloppy dresser, because I've never even heard of anyone putting a crease in sweatpants or jeans. Dress pants, yes, but not jeans, sweats, capris, cargo pants, or any other casual bottoms.

So no, no creases here.

Only dress pants get a crease...I don't care for a crease in my jeans,so fold them to prevent it.

Boot cut jeans. No crease. If it needs ironing I don't buy it. Clothes are folded or hung straight from the dryer while still warm.

Not in most of my pants, only the ones dressy enough to wear with high heals (another thing I almost never wear). But DH likes them in his work pants, mostly Dockers kind of thing. Still, if I hang them up with the fold the right way straight from the dryer, it usually holds enough of a crease for him. No starch, never ever bought starch in my life.

MIL ironed my kids' jeans to leave a crease in them when she was helping out once. My kids were highly offended. Creased jeans might have been the proper thing then DH was a boy, but my kids would not wear them to school that way. LOL. They thought their jeans (and reputations) would be ruined, I was LMBO at them!

No, to jeans and sweats or leisure things. Same for farm-style - overalls, etc.

Yes in dress pants or suit-pants ... but seldom add to the crease, myself.
