when i saw battered and deep fried candy bars, i had to scratch my head and wonder why.

the pizza kind of doesn't make sense to me - to batter something that's already a dough. maybe everyone feels the need to catch up to paula deen's heart attack method of cooking :-)

Um... Dances....Dances.... and who else ..... chocolate covered bacon....

There is a restaurant (eatery?) here in Texas that is famous for deep fried bacon. Yep, they batter and fry bacon! And of course, there are the oh-so-tasty fried dill pickles.
Fortunately, we have avoided both of these gourmet items.

Here in the South darn near everything is battered and deep fried. Nothing shocks me anymore....

azzalea - Isn't that called a Calzone? (turnover made from pizza dough and stuffed with cheese and fillings.) Or would it be called something else since it is deep fried?

I had deep fried ice cream, years ago. I read about the pizza earlier this week but I can't remember what they coated it with.

Aptosca--Pazarotti's aren't exactly like a Calzone. For one thing, they're smaller than most calzones I've seen, and calzones are generally baked, not fried. They're similar in the fact that they're both turnovers, but most places that have panzarotti's also sell calzones, too. Panzarotti's, by the way, are actually patented, and no one is supposed to advertise and sell them unless they buy them from the 'pizza king', Franco. Always was nice to have one of the grandkids in class, when I was teaching--the family would send in platters of mini pazarotti's for every party!

Zeetera--I saw the ingredients after I posted this--apparently the batter is pancake mix, garlic, pepper, and a few other things. Had a LOT of pepper in the mix--that was what I thought was poppyseed.

I LOVE fried ice cream, buy you so rarely get the real thing anymore. It's supposed to be encased in a cream puff, then dipped in batter (to seal it for safety's sake) and fried. Most of what you get in Mexican restaurants these days is just an ice cream ball that's been rolled in cornflake crumbs to give the illusion of being fried.

I was with Dances at the Fair. The bacon dipped in chocolate was okay, nothing to write home about. I don't think it will make as big a hit as some of the other things mentioned.

They also had deep fried Pepsi at the Fair. I have no idea how they do that or how it tastes but we did see a sign for it.

Never seen any of these deep fried things. How do you deep fry Pepsi? Maybe I can dip my bacon in chocolate syrup.
I'd sure like to try them though.

So Deep-fried Pepsi is just basically Beinets (sp?) where the choux pastry is made with Pepsi instead of water?

Clare-you can get them down at the Boardwalk. They serve them in those paper boats you get fries or corn-dogs in, and they put chocolate sauce on top. Kinda good.

There is a place here that serves deepfried hot dogs. They also deep fry their link sausage.

With all of that heavy-duty sun that you have down there ...

OK, deep fried Pepsi???? Now that's hearing everything. It did look preety good in the link though.

If they can deep-fry maccaroni and cheese (VERY GOOD,BTW), I guess deep fried pizza woudl be yum. No, I don't need to try it, but what's an extra 10K in calories when it tastes so good!!
