To sleep or not to sleep !
Comments (4)I can totally sympathize and I used to fret over how much sleep I was getting (or not getting) all the time. I was always waking up in the pre-dawn hours and it really bothered me I couldn't sleep through the night. But then last year, I decided to give it up and let my body settle into whatever sleep pattern I felt comfortable with. So I'm a total night-owl now and I rarely go to bed until well after midnight, usually between 1-2AM. That 'eight hours of sleep' thing is drilled into our heads all our lives, but everybody knows you don't need as much sleep as we age. I'm quite comfortable with 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night and can function just fine all day without feeling sleepy. The extra hours late at night are my quiet time and I spend it reading, working on craft projects, watching chick flicks, etc. It takes a while to adjust to a different schedule of sleep, but not fighting it made all the difference and I'm not staring at a dark ceiling at 3:00am anymore!...See MoreWhen did you start going out again (with baby)?
Comments (16)I agree, it is definitely easier at this age than, say, 18 mos. At least they don't have tantrums! I'd rather take a baby out than my 2 year old. So, I took them out early, earlier with each one because life just demands it. I had #3 at a school play for #1 they day after we came home from the hospital -3 days old. What am I gonna do, not go to DS's things? I found they slept pretty well when we went out. A lot of restuarants have special seats to put the carrier in. The constant hum of a crowded place would put mine to sleep every time. Though I got pretty good with the sling, too, eating over the baby. Sometimes the carrier is just in the way. Trade of holding her, do your best. Go at off peak times, so you don't have to wait, or call ahead for a table if you can. We very rarely managed dessert -unless we took it to go. Start out by going where you are familiar with the menu and so you can order as soon as you are seated. I really had no problems with movies, either. They slept, and there is no better place for discreet breastfeeding than a dark movie theatre (even the slurping sounds can't be heard :o)). It happened a couple times things didn't work out. But, you go with the flow. We asked for take out boxes for out meals. We left a theatre once when it wasn't working out, the manager saw us, thanked us for our consideration, and gave us passes to come back another time! You don't know until you try, and it's worth it to get out. If you start taking them young, it becomes familiar to them and they go along with it just fine. Go out this weekend and let us know how it goes!...See MoreNeed suggestions for Baby that won't sleep
Comments (8)Enjoyingspring, you could have been talking about my son. I would breastfeed him every 2 hours but he was very fussy and always seemed hungry in between. As he got older, it got worse - especially if I was the one holding him (perhaps he could smell the milk on me??). Although I am a firm advocate for breastfeeding, I just didn't think he was getting what he needed so I very wearily stopped breastfeeding and started formula. I continued to pump, just in case he had a bad reaction and I could go back to the breastfeeding, but he THRIVED on the formula. He no longer was fussy between feedings and he was so content. AND he finally slept. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't think my breast milk agreed with him......See MoreBragging on my baby - comes when he is called
Comments (1)I agree with the NOT whipping the furbabies. They don't understand why they are being hit and it only makes them afraid and doesn't TEACH them anything. I understand the frustration owners feel at times but you have to keep your head- correct them and then go to another place and scream or hit something like a pillow. YAY! I know the good feeling of having your pup come back. It makes all of the hours of training and frustration worth it. I am so glad there are so many great pet parents that take time to train. Some people just don't have the patience to deal with them. Keep up the good work!...See MoreUser
