Paint Colour for Kitchen / Family Room combo

Our home renovation is at the paint stage, and we chose BM's Edgecomb Gray for the kitchen / family room combo - before the kitchen went in, thinking it would turn out more grey than beige. But I don't like it at all in this space and need suggestions for a paint colour that will work well with the following elements:

-white (oyster) kitchen cabinetry
-Anthracite island (very dark gray/brown)
-Quartz countertops in "organic white"
-3x6 Calacatta marble back-splash
-hardwood oak floors stained medium-dark
-stainless stell appliances and two RH "Benson" pendants.

I am trying to go for a very clean, slightly coastal vibe here. My thoughts are leaning to some shade of white or a very pale shade of blue grey. Any thoughts? Your help is much appreciated!

HC-173 Edgecomb Gray -- Couldn't even find this on the Main Color Chart (to see where it was nested) but it does come up when you search for it singularly.

This is definitely more "beige" than gray -- brown base it seems. I rarely advise on a specific color but I'm studying grays for a project right now.

Ideally, if you can locate that color on the Master Color Chart or even back at the store on Paint Chips -- move more toward the TRUE Grays and not near neutrals or brown bases. Alternatively I like you're new choices of white or blue-gray too. I always keep in mind the basic trend of going with "warm colors" or "cool colors". Gray, Blues, Greens are definitely cool and breezy and in-line with your vibe.

Maybe don't give up on the gray -- the perfect one may be out there -- lots to choose from.

I just finished painting my FR/kitchen area with SW Silver Strand. It is light grey, with undertones of blue and green depending on the time of day and lighting. The color seems to change from morning till evening. Very coastal feel and soothing color. I love it. I have a beige tile floor, Ivory Fantasy granite with white, grey, beige, tan and black; and will eventually have painted white cabinets once I finish painting the trim in both rooms.

I would not want wood in my entry, but we have severe winters, so we drag a lot of snow in with us for much of the year. I would also worry about scratching a wood entry floor, since we don't take our shoes off until we get indoors. Wood everywhere else, though.

I would suggest you switch your lighting to LEDs in the 3500-5000K range before choosing any color for walls or cabinets. Those cabinets are painted so why do you think they can’t be painted again? IMO terra cotta walls will make that kitchen really dark. Are you planning in the near future on redoing that space ? I could be a much better space with some good planning , and please get a counter depth fridge it will immediately make that space feel bigger. Storage sometimes is just a matter of reorganizing and getting rid of stuff you don’t use or that you use once in a while maybe put those items somewhere else even in the basement. If you are ever going to redo make sure all the lower cabinets are drawers a much better way to store items even dishware and glass ware. I think I would need to see the areas surrounding the kitchen to suggest a wall color.I have to tell you I do not see gray as option for the walls in that space.

Thank you all. I pretty much feel like the kitchen elements are dictating the show because I am not changing them anytime soon. The kitchen shares a wall with the family room so the color has to satisfy both. I should have mentioned that in my first post. I have natural linen being painted from the upstairs hallway and foyer area and so far that color looks awesome. However I am Leary that this color will be too light for this room. We have 9 ft ceilings and very bright late afternoon sunshine in the family room. Its very dark any other time. I am partial to beige and taupes. Would those colors work here? And for those who have strong opinions about the rug. Would you go light or dark?

Annie -- thanks so much for posting about your project. Sounds lovely and will be even better when you get your cabinets done. :)

I've been stripping wallpaper and prepping a room for a month now. Today, I'm finally getting my "perfect light grey" on the ceiling and wall. I chose SW Big Chill and I'm loving it.

A couple to consider:

Benjamin Moore Gray Owl (OC-52)
Benjamin Moore Sleigh Bells (1480)

They are a very light, pale gray. Sleigh Bells is slightly darker.
