Soap Dispenser - Yes or NO?
Comments (33)We installed dispensers at the main sink and prep sink almost 3 years ago. One brand of handsoap I like tends to congeal more than others I've tried, especially during winter. Most soaps are fine. The dispensers are easy to clean around and I feel as though the metal dispenser is easier to keep looking nice than the free standing plastic bottles (the white part wouldn't look so white after DH used it.) We use handsoap in both (with Never Mt's)--it definitely helps having the soap handy for encouraging more frequent handwashing. I don't mind keeping the dishsoap under the sink since I only use it once a day. There are some soaps that can be used for both dishes and hands--there was a recent thread....See MoreWhat Soap in a Soap Dispenser?
Comments (13)Our kitchen isn't done yet, but we're putting hand soap in the dispensers at both the prep & main sink. I considered putting the dish soap in the dispenser, but I like to be able to squirt my dish soap at different places as needed. If it's in the dispenser the only place to put it is either in the sink where it "falls" or on the edge of pans/dishes as far in as the spout sticks out (I hope this made sense!) As to using dish soap for both...I find that even Palmolive is too harsh for regular hand washing...maybe if you only did it once or twice a day, but I wash my hands many more times a day. IMO, the "hand soap" label on the Palmolive (yes, we use that brand) refers to "hand dish washing" as opposed to "machine dish washing"...despite "Madge"! ("you're soaking in it!")...See MoreDo you like having a built in soap dispenser?
Comments (46)I had the same dilemma, and I asked about it in the thread below. I did not get one. I keep the dish soap under the sink. I was all about ease of cleaning, and I didn't want another thing to clean around. That said, I have friends who have three dispensers next to the sink in their beautiful, functional kitchen: one for dish soap, one for hand soap, and one for hand lotion. They and I represent the two ends of the soap dispenser spectrum. Soap Dispensers Redux...See Moresoap dispenser--do you use it?
Comments (24)I have a cheap Ikea one that matches my expensive HansGrohe faucet very well :) I LOVE it, but second the "check your distances" advice. I let the counter isntaller decide how far back to drill the hole, and he lined it up with the faucet hole. It's too far back; the end of the soap dispenser doesn't clear the marble, so any spills wind up on the marble rather than in the sink. other than that, I am SO glad I have it. Otherwise, we'd always be reaching under the sink for dish soap or hand-washing. Or have a dispenser sitting on the counter . I like this much better!...See Morebiochem101
