soap dispenser--do you use it?

Okay, it's coming down to crunch time on our countertops, etc. Have picked a faucet which has a separate sprayer and a separate soap dispenser, and I have to tell the granite guys how many holes to drill.

What I'm worried about is the possibility that the soap dispenser is a PITA to refill, and over time it becomes an unused item on the countertop.

How many of you out there are really glad you have that soap squirter, and how many let it run dry and just keep a bottle of Dawn under the sink and use that instead? (It's okay if you do that. It's not a moral failure.)

GLAD GLAD GLAD we have ours. Hated using the bottle of Palmolive, esp whn it neared the bottom and had to be kept on its side (or worse, upside down). It was always in the way, or falling in the sink while washing up.

We hooked our dispenser up to a Never M-T and a large bottle of Palmolive (sitting under the sink) and only need to replace the bottle a few times a yr at most. My next replacement is an even larger container from BJ's Warehouse, so I probably won't need to replace that for a year or more!

Ever since we got our first one several years ago we have been very happy with our soap dispenser. we put one in the new kitchen this summer. Couldn't imagine not having it and we use it all the time.

cat_mom... we just have to have our kitchen walls painted and buy a new dining table and we're finished. I can't wait to be able to post pics!

Hi elphaba, To answer your questions in irder: 1) Most are pretty easy to clean 2) Depending on what one you go for but on the whole they are virtually hassel free when re-filling 3) Brand is totally your decision, just stick with what you're already using! 4) I think soap dispensers are fairly universal & would be worried if somebody didn't know what it was! I have to agree with Molly, use what works best. I've found that even the HE detergents can be very sudsy. I've had the most trouble with the P&G liquid HE detergents. Currently I like the Shaklee powder best, it gives directions for both types of machines. 1/8 c. for FL and 1/4 c. for TL. I have used 1/4 c. on my oil stained massage linens, with no issues. I use an 1/8 c. or less on my regular wash. I'm also currently using regular, old Cheer powder for my dark wash. I've only done a couple of loads with it, but so far I like it, no sudsing issues. I even did a large jeans, undewear and socks, and some towels load with Cheer filled up to "line 1", as an experiment. There were no suds in the spin and very few in the first rinse, completely rinsed out by the last rinse. I usually get sudslock in the first spin if I've used too much soap. My water is relatively hard, I have a two year old Bosch 6400, that is very fussy about detergents and amounts. I could only use a couple of tablespoons, max of P&G HE or I would get sudslock in the spin. Therefore, my massage linens still had oil stains left on them. As has been said before, I think it depends upon your machine, type of load, and water chemistry what your results will be with different detergents. Whether it's a TL or FL, we all have to experiment to find what works best for our conditions.

Yes, it is called rebatching, and I will avoid it if at all possible. It's time consuming and tedious. To let you know, I make cp soap by the 10 pound recipes. I presently have 2 buckets of soap scraps, I would guess about a 2 or 3 cubic foot container. Instead of rebatching it I will add it to a new recipe of soap. Unlike what you have, this is still virgin soap scraps, not previously used. I will make soap and give these away or use them ourselves. What I would do if I had these previous used scraps, I would just add it to a new bar as they are being used; they do stick fairly readily, and they rarely come off. If you are going to still rebatch, I would grate them, then lightly mist them (not dripping) the night before, then add them to a crockpot on low or medium heat. You will need to set aside about 4 hours or so, depending on how much soap you need to do. The trick is to add just enough water (by the tablespoon) to keep the soap pliable and not dry, while you are trying to mash it, until it is thoroughly melted. Be careful, this soap is very hot while in the crock! Any scent of the scraps will disappear in the final product, so if you want it scented, then let the soap cool down a bit and mix in scent just before pour/mashing it into any molds. hth

we love ours-got a cheapy from an on-line overstock source. One caution--be absolutely sure it is far enough from your faucet to prevent each from interfering with the other. Your countertop fabricator may have no idea what the right distance is (ours didn't to sad result).

Love our soap dispenser; have a lotion dispenser on the other side of the faucet. Use them daily and no problem to refill.Finish matches our faucet. As clarep says, make sure the distances are right.

OMG. LOVE. It! It is my favorite gadget in my kitchen and I would not live without it either! We installed one in our last house and when we moved to this house we immediately replaced the spiggot with a pull down sprayer and put in the soap dispenser where the separate sprayer had been.

Before we replaced it in this house I was going crazy having to reach for the dish soap, lift the lid, squeeze, close the lid and put away. Now I simply tap and have soap.

Its a breeze to refill. I just lift the dispenser and the opening is wide enough to refill from above.

My father in law installed them in his bathrooms and I will do the same when we remodel those. Love, Love, Love.

I had one put in in 2002 when we got new countertops and have never had a problem with it. It is very easy to fill. I use regular Dawn in it and it doubles as handsoap. I am glad I have it.

No thank you. I have one and don't plan on putting it back in on the remodel. I will continue to look at other models before I say no for sure, but I haven't seen one yet that I would want. They just don't have enough 'oomph' for me, I pump it several times. I LIKE lots of soap, not just a little dab will do ya. Not that I think getting out the bottle from under the sink is a real treat either, but better than a poorly functioning (for my preferences) sink top dispenser.

I like and use mine. I like it because it keeps the kitchen sink area looking so much neater.

I had intended to get one of the never M-Ts, but the soap dispenser fills from the top. It's easy to fill and takes about 2/3 large bottle of dish soap, so I don't have to refill it very often.

I would definitely put one in again.

Love my current one. Like kd, I also had a Hamat which was a piece of junk. Replaced it with a Mountain Plumbing dispenser and I use it umpteen times a day.

Installed a Moen soap dispenser that matches the Aberdeen faucet when I remodeled the kitchen 5 years ago. Use it every single day...multiple times. Absolutely love it. It has never failed, and it needs re-filling only occasionally. Refilling it is no big deal at all...no muss, no fuss. It's not a "special" brand....just the Moen soap dispenser that matches the Aberdeen faucet. Can't imagine working in my kitchen without it.

Love my brizo dispenser. When I replaced my concrete countertops with soapstone, I kept the faucet and dispenser. Unfortunately, the soapstone is thicker and we can't mount the undersink dispenser until we get a longer threaded shaft. Boo--it hate the dish soap under the sink.

beth4, we have the exact same faucet and matching soap dispenser. We put ours in 5 years ago and have not had one problem either. I love both the faucet and the dispenser.

We have one, like it, but unlike the other posters, I put hand soap in it. Guess I never thought to put dish soap in it. I am constantly washing my hands in the kitchen, so it's quite handy for me.

I was very disappointed when I was told my sink was too big and I couldn't fit the soap dispenser in it. Even though it can be refilled from the top it just wouldn't fit into the corner under my counter.

Just had one installed in our new kitchen. DW likes it a lot. As for me, I don't hate it but, prefer using the old condiment squeeze bottle I've been using for the last 20 years. Maybe it's just a getting used to thing.

I have a cheap Ikea one that matches my expensive HansGrohe faucet very well :) I LOVE it, but second the "check your distances" advice. I let the counter isntaller decide how far back to drill the hole, and he lined it up with the faucet hole. It's too far back; the end of the soap dispenser doesn't clear the marble, so any spills wind up on the marble rather than in the sink. other than that, I am SO glad I have it. Otherwise, we'd always be reaching under the sink for dish soap or hand-washing. Or have a dispenser sitting on the counter . I like this much better!

Love the soap dispenser. Gets rid of that messy detergent botttle on the counter top. I don't have a never empty or whatever. What I did was just take the pump part to the local hardware store, got a 3' length of plastic hose that will fit over the end. When you get home, remove the plastic container from under the sink, and stick the other end of the hose into a large bottle of detergent.

Love my soap dispenser. Have just a basic Moen to match my faucet. Nothing fancy - has never clogged, and is super easy to refill. I'm building another home and will definitely include it. One pump is so much easier than picking up a bottle, turning it over, and squirting! Oh, and I use it all the time and don't have to refill it very often.
