how long to let paint 'cure'

We just painted our kitchen cabinets with Benjamin Moore Satin Impervo and I'm wondering how long we should let it dry before putting things back in the cabinets.

How dark is the color?

If you just painted the outer side of the "Boxes", I'd wait a couple days or so b4 handling the door-frames too much.

If possible, leave doors open until everything is in!
The less handling/closing-force....the better!!!
Keep doors/drawers propped open slightly for a week or so too.

In the first MONTH....IMO...paint is still slightly "vulnerable". There's no magic time for "fully cured" status. There's SO MANY variables....

After a month though, most paints have hardened-off considerably.

Painted inside and out. Took doors off and shelves
were removable so took them out to paint.
Painted very dark oak a creamy white (Mayonnaise)

Thanks Faron. I don't want anything put back for
at least a week, DH said 3 or 4 days. I'll make
him hold out as long as possible now!

It's "cured" as soon as it's finished. Whether it sets at that point is another issue. But as Dave mentioned, it might benefit from some resting time. It really depends upon the recipe, the proportion of peel and the method of preparation. Either way, though, it's not like a pickle. Carol

Not necessary. The contractor will typically leave the forms in place for a couple of days. It will then take five-seven days to strip the forms and set the foundation wall forming up. During that time the footing concrete will cure sufficiently to take the weight. More critically, be sure the foundation is not backfilled until the first floor is on or there is sufficient bracing in place. I would let it "sit" for at least a week, but wait as long as you can. It's hard to really say how long it will take to fully cure, but based on your description, I would say that you have done a great job. Technically it can take a full month to cure, but use your judgement, the surface should (obviously) not be tacky. If the surface is flat and you want extra protection, I sometimes use a piece of glass, which I know can be expensive. But I also like the "antiqued" look.

Thank you everyone! And gray, thank you. Actually, I was going to wait to take a picture of the new wall color but as I was sitting on the sofa I noticed that the red bucket with gary and white mop picked up the colors of the art piece. And so I went to get my camera. Jusr when I was ready to take the picture my black and white Border Collie laid down at his gray silver bowl to eat. And so now, the black was repeated and ancored at the mid bottom as well as at the mid top. (God always creates such perfect scenes for us to capture.) It was only after I loaded the picture up on photobucket that I realized that even the curve of the cord (which will be covered) was repeated in the curve of the alignment of the art, bucket and dog. Wow! How cool is that! Thanks again. Oh, well. Glad you told me about not putting up the art right away. Paint seems to dry here pretty quickly since I am in the desert. I ended up adding a small amount of Taupe to my EK Adobe gallon of paint for the accent walls(s). For some reason - the Adobe was reading a bit green next to the Taupe which of course has more red in it. So now the new improved Adobe color is very, very nice with the Taupe on the main walls.

Oooooohhh....

If any shelf TOPS were painted, DON'T put anything on them for at least 2 WEEKS IMO.

Example: If I was painting a bookshelf, I wouldn't books on those shelves for a MONTH.
Again....there's many variables, but if your shelf-tops are painted, it's gonna TAKE A WHILE b4 ridges from plates, etc., won't get impressed into the slooooooowwwlly hardening paint-film.

Remember-
Feeling "dried-out" and CURED are 2 different things!!

You won't have a large pile of dishes in the way LOL!!

Paper-plates CAN be a good thing in a "transition" time like this!! Meaning....at least you won't have to re-stack dishes on the counter for some time!??!
