Here in Oklahoma, we hire the hulling done, which leaves a very clean shell. Because the nuts were so wet this year, we dumped out half of the net bagfull into openwork crates to cure, turned over the net bags every day and tossed the crates to aerate the nuts in there. A couple weeks of this in a dry place should allow you to store your nuts without fear of them molding. Later in the year if the shells get too hard to crack without splintering badly, the nuts can be soaked for 5-6 hours in warm water, then spread out to dry in a large tray one nut deep until just the surface is dry before cracking. My grandfather more than once cracked out the meat from a black walnut in two perfect halves. But he had a very good cracker and years of experience. I've never been able to do it.

Did'ja paint the inside shelves?! How dark is the color? If you just painted the outer side of the "Boxes", I'd wait a couple days or so b4 handling the door-frames too much. If possible, leave doors open until everything is in! The less handling/closing-force....the better!!! Keep doors/drawers propped open slightly for a week or so too. In the first MONTH....IMO...paint is still slightly "vulnerable". There's no magic time for "fully cured" status. There's SO MANY variables.... After a month though, most paints have hardened-off considerably. Faron

Thanks. You're definitely suffering from a lack of adhesion exacerbated by heavy pressure on a small area of the floor. That can is definitely oil based poly. Are you sure that's the last product that was applied, or are assuming it was, since the can was left behind? Mostly I see this type of debonding when using water based urethane. The character of the peeling looks like water based. The peeling oil poly I see usually comes up in bigger strips. Once you get a edge up you can pull it up like tape. Water based urethane usually comes up in smaller flakes. Scraping it with your thumb nail generates small crystalline shards. There are several reasons this can happen. Improper preparation before the coat is chief among them, however, if the coats weren't applied on consecutive days, the surface could have been contaminated between coats. When I see this issue on a floor, I apply pressure in an inconspicuous area using the corner of my measuring tape, to see if the finish will delaminate easily. If it does, the problem will probably spread. In some cases a small spot is affected and applying pressure to other areas has no adverse effect. Can you post a picture of the bottom of the legs on the footstool?
