Halloween Fun :)

Hi everyone,

Well, one of my very favorite holidays is next week and next Saturday is a Halloween party out at the theatre! I will post pictures of me in costume. For the party, I will be making some Cheddar-Bacon Balls, and a double batch of them just to be on the safe side.

Here's the recipe. Would it be okay if I used bread crumbs instead of the pecans to roll them in?

I think that a chopped nut would be a better choice. Walnuts come to mind. The crunch will add to overall taste.

I wouldn't use plain breadcrumbs. If you don't like nuts or have guests with allergies,(i dont care for nuts in savory recipes) maybe crushed up ritz crackers would have better flavor. Or....why not roll them in more bacon.? MMMMMMMM BACON. :)

I had just finished posting to this and we had a power surge and lost all of it. So I'll try again. Karen, I'll keep you posted on Joe and the little Spooks. Thanks for your comments on the Ghost. OA, I've always decorated DGD swing set and play house for Christmas. This year I used it for Halloween too since it's easy access to power. Dream, thanks and glad you like Joe. The carving on him is amazing. Jeanne, thanks for all the sweet comments. We live at the bottom of the Mission Mtns. Those are hills in the scarecrow picture and are our view in the back. I'll show you a moutain shot we see from the front in June. They are beautiful most of the year. Lynn, thanks and if you want to come trick or treating now you're very Welcome. Our place is right next to the highway so we always try to light things up pretty well for the Holidays. We've done so much in the past and everyone has grown to expect it so we usually have most of the yard decorated. This year only the front and side. Frou, we generally get up to 150 little gobblins at our home. They have started doing Halloween parties at some of the Club Houses so it has cut back to 100 a couple years. DH grew up here and I came as a 1st grader so we're not stragers and most parents come in with their children just to say "Hi". your sweet comments on this post. Punk

Halloween Fun... Ghosts?

You guys are freaking me out. Long time ago when I was in the Air Force the girl across the hall used to tell me about the ghosts in the family home outside Philadelphia. She said both her parents were dr's and her mother could also read aura's and see ghosts and she once had some sort of wild nature ghost bothering her and they had to call people in to evict it etc. etc. and I just didn't believe any of it. Why would the daughter of a doctor be enlisted in the Air Force? She didn't even have a car. Anyway one weekend I went home with her. Oh my. Big old huge white elephant just off the Main line, mother comes home from volunteer teaching CPR and tells us to get bread from the freezer in the basement. I'm down there trying to get their dog to come down and she yells down "oh the dog doesn't like it down there because of the ghost" She reads her sons friends aura at dinner and tells me on the way to the train the next day that at the present time my guardian was a woman. Man I didn't get ANY sleep. The girl also said the more you think about spirits the more they are drawn to you. So I used to lie in my barracks bunk thinking "i'm not thinking about spirits I'm not thinking about spirits" like some sort of idiot.

Thanks all. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone with the Halloween theme. I know some people are sensitive about it and that's why I included it in the title. I figured if anyone would be offended by it then they wouldn't look at this post. I grew up with the holiday having a significant religious connection (All Hallows Eve, being the night before All Saints Day) and was shocked as an adult to learn that other groups viewed it so negatively. The wall hanging is meant to be what I think of as Halloween: fun, innocent, and slightly spooky without being too scary for children.

I will try to use the chopped pecans in the recipe. Or maybe the bacon. Both ideas sound very appetizing to me :).

I may just leave out the hot banana peppers it lists in the recipe, too. I also don't have any fresh parsley, so I will be using dried instead.

Sounds like fun! I love Halloween.
I've been searching for something to make and came across this one...(in the link)
I might make a version of it though smaller and roll in ground plain chips (instead of nacho flavor)
I like that they look like pumpkins and maybe use julienned celery for the stems...celery strips soaked in ice water will curl up a bit.
Definitely like the bacon in your recipe

Brad, I like Halloween too, nothing except an excuse to dress up and get free candy, what would be bad about that? And you're NEVER too old for free candy, ever!

This year will be Madi and Maci's first year of trick or treating. I told Madi that if she dressed up in her Monkey suit and said trick or treat, people would give her candy. Her response? "No WAY!!". I assured her it was true and now she's excited, so I'm going trick or treating on Friday night.

Have fun at the party and on Halloween. I think I'm going to be a farmer this year. (grin)

I love bacon, but I think the pecans would be a better choice, or maybe you could have both...

Moonwolf,

If you want to skip chopped nuts you can roll plain balls. Then sprinkle lightly with paprika and press a slice of pimento stuffed green olive on top (eyeball), or a piece of crisp bacon, or a pecan piece.

Sounds like everyone's getting into the Halloween spirit! I will never EVER give up on dressing up or celebrating Halloween. I can't wait to show you all my costume! I just got the last few items I needed for it tonight.

Our big party is this coming Saturday also. We usually threaten that if someone shows up not in a costume, than they might be assigned one at the door.

Bob, I really like the devilled eggs, LOL, and the arms are cool.

The grandkids are having a Halloween themed birthday party, so we're planning goodies right now. Stromboli snakes, tortilla chips and mucus, skull cupcakes, maybe some stomach contents. We'll see what transpires. (grin)

Annie, what about some Witch's Brew (or some other Halloween-themed beverage) to drink with all of their party foods? It sounds frighteningly good otherwise!

Often we will make a simple, gross-looking punch consisting of limeade and lime sherbet. It looks like toxic waste.

We'll have something to drink, but I'm trying to keep it as colorless as possible. We'll have lots of kids and are renting the Township Hall. For some reason unknown to any rational human, they've carpeted it. I don't get my $50 deposit back unless the place is clean and I really don't want to be shampooing something red or purple or green out of the carpet if I can help it. (sigh)

Any suggestions, besides lemonade or that "mystery" koolaid flavor that is colorless?

I just got done making the Cheddar Bacon Balls for tomorrow's Halloween party at the theatre! Now to relax and watch Beetlejuice (it's on TV currently).
