Comments (16)Boy does this sound familiar! Our little mouse story goes like this... Our kitchen reno actually started with a basement bathroom--7 years ago! When we moved in, there was just a toilet, and we wanted to make it an actual bathroom with walls and such, since it is a bit off-putting to use a potty just sitting out in the open. LOL. So the adventure begins when we have to dig out all the old pipes and replace them all the way to the street, as our pipes are crumbling and only held together with the tree roots that have invaded. I start to get the idea that a simple stand-up pre-fabbed shower unit was not going to cut it, and I really was lusting after those large, deep soaking tubs. I convinced DH that as long as we were putting in a new bathroom, let's make it a magnificent dream bathroom (or as dreamy as you can get in a basement-LOL). Well, since we have the walls and ceilings exposed, this would probably be a good time to add a bath up-up stairs, and then the boys could have their bedrooms up there. Perfect! Well, maybe since we have finished the upstairs bath, perhaps the main bath could use some updating. That looks fabulous, but did you notice how loud it is when someone is upstairs? I think that we should have our master bedroom up there, and the kids can stay down here, but let's move them into the former master and make their room an office. Yes, let's! Ewww, did you notice how positively grungy the living room seems since all the other rooms look so fresh and bright? It really does. You know, now that the living room has a facelift, this might be a good time to take the wall down between the kitchen and dining room. It only makes sense. Well, now that the wall is down, and we will have to replace the flooring, we might as well make some changes to the kitchen... Someday, we will finish that "dream" basement bathroom and come full circle on our home project, but you know if you give a mouse a cookie.......See MoreEEEK!!!..A mouse in my makeshift kitchen!
Comments (3)I had one in the bathroom while it was in disarray! First thing I did was tell the barn cats that hang out by the garage door to get busy OR ELSE! Or else what I don't know but I didn't see the mouse again. If they can catch them out in the pasture they can catch one before it makes it into the house! And this was in July. I'd hate to think what it would be like now....See MoreBarn Apartment Floorplan for a City Mouse!
Comments (19)Thank you Justgota! Cawaps, I'm not totally sure about the ceiling height but I'm not too concerned about it. Like I said, I'm basing my layout on the BarnPro structure and they have good illustrations to go off of plus actual barns they have built. Based on those pictures I don't see any constricted space. Of course, once my floorplan gets in front of an actual designer, I have no doubt some things will change but at least I'll have my priorities figured out. Star Jeep & Cassia , I think we'll just have to insulate that wall really well. I'm already thinking there's not enough closet space and switching (or adding the washer and dryer) would reduce that space even more. I also thought about switching the toilet with the shower but the window would be in the way. Regarding the frig, I think I would prefer to make the counter top deeper rather than recessing the fridge. MtnRR, I know very cool. I asked DH about the garage door and he thinks it would be more trouble than it's worth. He's probably right. No 3d, I'm just using Illustrator, not architectural software. BarnPros...See MoreEek! Comments (30)All the money we spent on Peppermint oil over the years! Darn. Here I thought it was working and just above I thought maybe it was the construction on either side of us, but where were they getting in all of a sudden? Then it dawned on me that when we tore down the storage unit under the back deck last spring we found there were mice living in there. While hubby continued to work on removing everything in there, I went upstairs for some reason. Probably to wash up as I can only stand to feel so dirty before I have to scrub myself. When I came down I saw he had the basement french doors wide open. That may very well be when they got in. This weekend we'll get more mouse traps and set them up down there and hopefully that will get rid of the rest of them, if there are any left. I hope there aren't, but not taking that chance....See Moremrsmortarmixer
