Hot Pepper Burn Remedy

I cut up some hot peppers (from the co-op box, didn't realize they were hot until my hands were suddenly on fire) and needed relief. Tried sour cream, aloe, milk, oil, maalox, vinegar, yogurt, honey, sugar, ice water, lime water, straight lime juice, nothing really helped.

So I rinsed my hands under the hottest water I could stand, and washed them really well with mild soap, then rinsed with hot water again. Initial agony, but then rapid and immediate improvement. For the little bit of burn that was left, I sprinkled my hands with lots of salt and rubbed it all over, rinsed again. No pain, no burning for the past hour, so I think it's safe to say IT WORKED!! Wanted to post in case someone else runs into hot pepper trouble, it is so uncomfortable.
