I just got down on my knees & picked a big bowl of the groundcherries that had fallen on the ground; & then had to sit down & remove the fruit from the husk ... what a chore to get enough for a pie! I always like that pie that my Iowa grandmother would make ... IF she could get us kids to gather them from the ground for her.!
Anyone else that also likes this berry & bakes with it? I think it may also be called 'cape gooseberry' & once planted (an annual) & leave some of the berry seed in the garden you never have to plant it again ... it re-seeds & comes up every year. It has a very mild flavor & you either love the taste... or HATE it!!
