Opinions on this Buffet: GW Find
Comments (34)drybean, the more I see of the piece, I think you would be foolish not to keep it, especially for that price. Men can be convinced - cry if you have to!!! The piece that I bought sounds like Dorothy9's. It definately is a buffet and the top slides open to increase the size of serving area. It appealed to me because I am always looking for flat areas for display of my little pretties. Just a thought if you are torn between painting and staining - because my piece "slides" I was concerned that the paint would be compromised every time I opened it. I have decided to leave that top molding (for lack of a better term) to stay stained and I will paint the bottom of the piece. Without a doubt, I really think you need to use your powers to convince hubby. Maybe give him a day to rest before you hit him with "oh by the way". Good luck....See MoreNew wine buffet: THought for what to go above it?
Comments (11)You mention having wine storage in your DR, so how do you envision using this piece and where is it located? If it's in a good spot for a beverage/snack center (e.g. for a party), then I would put the shelf with hanging stemware storage on the wall at the right. Otherwise, I'd store your stemware near your main wine storage. In any case, I'd put a nice big mirror behind it (maybe in a nice frame to match the wood) and hang a pendant above it. I'd keep the top open for serving snacks and an ice bucket (if that's what it will be used for). Or display some favorite pictures on it, but I'd still trade the lamp for a pendant or maybe a pair of wall sconces on either side of a mirror. If it's not really needed for wine storage / serving beverages and snacks, then there is nothing wrong with using it for something else. For example, it would look nice with colorful, rolled up placemats, napkins and towels where the wine bottles go. But that all depends on where it is located and how you plan to use it....See MoreChallenge for You...Please Help! How to Fix This Glitch...Today
Comments (58)I know the trend is for opening everything up, but that doesn't work well here. It's not that big of a deal, and would only cost maybe a hundred dollars or so, but I'd add some studs and drywall back, and re-create some of the wall. It works much better to have two separate spaces open to each other, rather than wide open, but not integrated. Creating one space out of two here doesn't work because they haven't been unified into ONE space well, and you have to deal with the plumbing chase. And thus, you get lots of people who will think Marcolo's comment about the range being in the DR, but not actually say that to you. It feels like the kitchen is busting it's way into the DR way with no separation. The kitchen needs to be separate and feel separate from the dining area, or else you need to do a LOT more work here to make it into a real single space. Adding enough of the walls back to accomplish the separation. Still maintaining a larger opening than originally there will actually make the space more cohesive. It feels choppy and awkward with them flowing into each other with no delineation now....See MoreEveryday bloom thread - Post what is blooming for you today
