It's a good thing I checked in here, or I'd have missed it! I was thinking tomorrow! Now I feel pretty cheesy because I was carping all day about the intense sun. We've had so much rain the last season, you'd have thought a sunny day would have been welcomed, but I've blown a small fortune out in gas to bring my Easter lilies to bloom in the dark/cold/dank days preceding this early easter........and the one day I'd have liked it to be dark/cool/humid it wasn't! LOL. I just got in from working on tomorrow's shipment and those pristine white trumpets can crap out pretty quickly in heat and bright light. The moon is inspiring tonight, btw. Hi Junek, Welcome to the forum!! The plant in the top right of the forum page is actually aechmea fasciata. If you want to check on the fcbs website the link is below- http://fcbs.org/pictures.htm When you are there look to the left and click on aechmea then "F" then click on fasciata and see if that looks like yours. Keep watering when it is flowering but i do not see the need to fertilze as it is near the end of it's life. Some people do to produce more pups. We all love broms here, it's called "the brom bug" dooley.

Yeah! Greens. My mother who was only one generation removed from pioneer stock, at this time of the year would hunt our lawn, garden, and countryside to concoct a fresh salad. This would be her first fresh food since the first frost of last fall. Young dandelion leaves were part of that salad. Another ingredient was wild onions. The dressing was made with bacon fat and seasonings. The salad was sauteed in skillet with anything else she could find to throw in. If she found morel mushrooms, these would be chopped and tossed in. My sister and I viewed this dish with a jaundiced eye and would eat a little of it, while Mom devoured the remainder.

I just saw on tv this morning that there are spring storms in some of the states.

We've had higher than normal temps for 2 weeks. We've gotten off easy all winter.

Jas, I exiled my worms when I moved here. Just couldn't get the balance right, and get rid of fruit flies.

They are outside, in a drum (circle without bottom) with the bottom set below ground level. So far, this winter everything I piled in there lays there untouched.

However, I know they will survive, cause they did last winter. They aren't to active, cause of the cold, and hover down low below the ground. Then, when it gets warm, they come back up and get to work. :)

Moni... who is supposed to lead a 5 mile training ride today... and hopes for LOTS more snow, to be able to call it off.

Yep, they'll be alive and kicking and hungry when everything thaws out.
I frequently freecyle my poop, cause I can't keep up with it, living in an apartment.

hmmm this conversation should raise some questions ;-)

I can't believe that less than 24 hours ago we were out enjoying the 70s. We have sleet/snow on the ground and are expecting snowfall similar to Moni's. On the bright side, I guess my new sod that got laid down Wednesday is getting watered.

We've had an amazing winter. Hardly any snow at all!! And the temperatures are warming up, I saw crocuses and pussywillows yeaterday.

I've been marking off the days on a calendar since mid-Feb. In my part of Ohio, it's to be almost up to 70Â° today, with mostly sunshine. But then it's supposed to change to temps in 40s/50s, with rain. That's to be expected. I remember about 24/25 yrs ago we had our biggest snowstorm of the winter on this date. It doesn't hang around long, but can be depressing.

We've alread HAD our Spring -- three days of sunny, dry weather. Yesterday there was a 40-degree temperature drop, and now we have two inches of wet snow with more falling. This is soooo typical, especially the lake effect snow.

I know there's "Indian Summer", but what do you call the early teaser of Spring, followed by more Winter?

We have had 3 days of Spring. Temperature now is 72; rain possible this coming Tuesday.

I'm loving this weather. Have some Jonquils blooming.

Yup, we have had lovely weather in southern California the past two weeks. I even finally washed the outside of my windows yesterday, so if it rains soon, you know who caused it!

I have been knitting red mufflers for the Red Scarf Project this past two weeks. My sister told me about them. They are an organization who works to encourage kids who have aged out of the foster child care program and are in college with no family support. This organization sends them care packages every now and then, maybe monthly, not sure. But in February, they mail a box that includes a very, very nice homemade red muffler or scarf 5 to 6 inches wide and 60 to 70 inches long. They have to be unisex because they mail to several thousand kids in colleges across the country, and they cannot sort for boys and girls. So I am doing some red scarves for this worthy cause. I have finished two already and have two more on knitting needles.

I dug through my stash this morning and decided to try maroon sport yarn I have too. That's red, of a sort, isn't it? I am knitting that yarn into a 3x3 rib. Boring knitting, but it makes a handsome, unisex scarf, and I can watch tv quite easily.

I am saving coupons to buy more red yarn at JoAnn's or Michael's. They have thousands of college kids who are on their own to help, and I would like to do several by the time we have to mail them to the organization in the fall.
