Grammahony the Irish flag is green, white and orange.
The green stands for the Irish Catholics the orange for the Irish Protestants and the the white for the peace between them. So an "orange " would be Irish Protestant.

Yes, I'm half Irish and my first, middle and last names are all very Irish. Last year we got to go to Ireland and I now understand the nickname "The Emerald Isle". I hope some of those scenes make it to my final slide show, so to speak.

Every once in a while one of my patients will ask me if I'm Irish because of my name, Kathleen. Even got seranaded by some old guy (our tour guide)in Italy about 20 years ago, on the bus in front of everyone. Talk about embarressing.

My Great great grandfather, Michael Gaffney, came here from Ireland in 1800, and settled in South Carolina. He started business with a grocery store, and from that the area grew and Gaffney, South Carolina is named for him.

Family lore has it that we are descended from an Irish princess (Princess Sheilagh Na Giera) on my paternal grandfather's side, if you'd like to believe that. However, all the rest of my bunch came over to Newfoundland from Devon/Dorset in southern England from as far back as the 1670's.

DH's great-great-grandfather came over here from Ireland in the mid to late 1800's.

My Great Grandma Paul on my Mom's maternal side was an Irish Kennedy, My Grandpa's Scottish clan was banished to Ireland for sheep poaching which is why his last name started with an McC instead of a MacC. You can tell we have a lot of "black Irish" (mix of Spanish and Irish) genes in our blood - well not mine but those of my Mom and her siblings and most of my siblings. They are lucky and have darker skin and dark hair while myself and my brother Donald were the fair haired, rosey cheeked children.

My Mom and her siblings were born in Scotland.

There is also Irish blood on both sides of my Dad's family. Although he and 2 of his siblings were born in Canada my Grandpa, Grandma and my Uncle were born in England.
