Yes, three times, which is the reason I left Memphis, Tn.

Yes, but not at home, at our antique mall we once had. They went up the fire escape, took a large rock and broke the window and opened the door. They went down the same way. The alarm was not installed yet.

Yes, twice when I lived in FL. Once they only went into the utility room that was a separate room off the kitchen and stole tools and the other time it turned out to be 2 teenaged girls who burgled several homes in different cities. They were eventually caught but it was too late for me and my jewelry, some of which was antique or custom made, melted down for the gold. I was beyond ticked off. Cash and other items were taken too, the older one had to pay restitution but that didn't replace my grandmother's antique black onyx and platinum diamond ring that she had just given me.

No, thank goodness. I have a very good alarm system with a visible strobe alarm box on the front of the house, plus central station monitoring.

Also, all my close neighbors look out for one another.

    Nope.

    When one drives a 20-year-old car ...

... one doesn't attract the kind of attention that may encourage such.

Yes, about 6 times. Once my son's car was stolen while he was home from college to help me secure my windows with better locks.

In a previous burglary, they got away with an extra set of car keys and were just waiting for the right car to show up. Son recovered his car before the cops could find it and no damage was done.

This all happened in the same house I still live in, but things are more secure. However, the possibility for theft and vandalism is still high in this part of town. :(

Personally, no. I took care of my folks second home in the town where we live and when I checked on the house, some small items were missing. The police said they thought it was teens casing the place for later. We secured the windows and no problem after that. When we put the folks stuff in storage, they were remodeling the house, the storage unit was broken into. We really couldn't find anything but a small tv taken, but they went through EVERY box and made a huge mess. That was a royal pain to clean up. They dumped powdered laundry soap over everything. They never caught them. About a year before my folk's house was burglarized. The cops said they should play the lottery their luck was so "good". Three times in one year, in two different locations.

In the '70's we owned a small grocery store and it was burglarized one night.

At home I had a large jar of money taken. I was a single mom raising 2 sons and we put our spare change in that jar and once a year we would take it out and I would split it up between my sons so they could buy something special. There was probably around $300 in the jar and I am pretty sure I know who took it. It was a boy the age of my middle son who I had been very nice to because I thought he wasn't as bad as I had heard. Guess I was wrong that time! It is an awful feeling to know that someone has come into your home and taken something. I was miserable for weeks after that.

Never and if anyone should try it now that goose would run them off in a hurry. LOL

Yes....year ago, when out house had a storage shed built onto the back of the house, which looked like a back door into the house.
They took the power mower and leaf catcher attachment, left the old tires alone.

Same house...back when our local daily paper published names and addresses of hospital admissions (true!). DH was admitted for emergency surgery and in ICU, address was in the paper next day. That evening, I was so tired after coming back from the hospital, I just turned off all the lights and turned on the radio. Soon, I heard the handle on the front door turning and the door rattling. I carefully made my way to the front of the house, turning on lights along the way. When I looked out a window, I saw a car driving away.

I've had a few things stolen by a 'friend' who I found out later was a kleptomaniac. Thankfully, we've never been burglarized.. in fact I can only think of one person who has been and the culprit turned out to be his son-in-law.

Yes ... once. My date and I got home while the crook was still in the house, and we heard the backdoor BANG! as he went running out it and down the alley. He got my stereo and speakers.

    yes,where I am now I have been

No, thank goodness. Maybe it helps that we have a sign over the door, with a picture of a .357 Magnum, which reads "Forget the dog...Beware of Owner"! Our neighbor has a sign, with a picture of a rifle, that reads "We don't call 911". The crime rate is low out here in the sticks.....

Thieves used to read the obits and rob a home during funerals.

No, I haven't. I did have a cousin who stole an engagement/wedding ring set. She had many 'problems' and I felt sorry for her. I just didn't think she'd steal from me.

    No, never.

Yes, many years ago. It was in the house we're in today. There were so many "earmarks" that led me to believe it was a friend's brother who has always been in and out of trouble, but I (nor the police) could prove it.

Yes, once, when I was about 20 years old. Came home late one night and discovered that someone had broken into my apartment and had stolen my television and stereo. It was a ground-floor apartment, and the person had broken in through the bedroom window, which was on the back of the building.

    Thankfully NO!

Many years ago, but he didn't get in, the dog barking chased him off. I was home alone with my young son, it scared me terribly.
