Slipcover Fabric selection - help - pics

Hello,

I have 2 chairs that my dh got from an office supply warehouse. They are good sturdy chairs and I would like to slipcover them with a fun fabric. My room is SW Steely Gray. My style is cottage/casual/beach. What color do you think would pop in this room? I'd really like a print of some type.

How about this. The seller says it is a good weight for slipcovers. It also comes in orange.

I used honed calacatta gold 9"x18" on the shower walls and tub wall surround as well as on the bathroom floor, but I used 2"x2" grecian white tile from a big-box store on the shower floor (only because I couldn't find honed calacatta that I liked in stock locally and didn't have time to wait). Anyhow, I used TEC dove gray unsanded grout on the shower walls, bathroom floor, etc, but sanded grout on the shower floor because the distance between the tiles with the mesh backing was fairly sizable. The color is perfect because it has a slight taupe/green hue which works well with the calacatta. Many people recommended TEC silverado, but it's too bright gray, in my opinion. Delorean gray was my other option but I still through the dove gray looked best with my field tile. You can also get matching colored grout (in the appropriate texture (i.e., sanded or unsanded) from your retailer, and you'll need that for the corners. Good luck.

I too have heard wonderful things about Flexsteel quality, but- I am not sure if it is still the way it was. Melly says hers is older, which reinforces my questioning on this. Not trying to be too much of a skeptic but I was in the market for family room furniture and su:rfed the web tirelessly- and found all sorts of conflicting opinions.......... I have had Broyhill which I know is a very moderate line, and I also know that might not be an option now as they have had a good deal of financial woes but the furniture was great. (also very old so not sure of what is made now) I had Thomasville which I believe is supposed to be a better quality than Broyhill and is more $. It was ok but it was not any better than the others. I ended up buying Rowe, which I believe is probably comparable to Broyhill- anyway it's only a few months old but it seems great and it is made in USA. I didn't spend a lot, as that was what the moral of the story seemed to be- there was no longer a correlation between quality and price. This may still be valid for much higher end lines but for what I was considering.... that's my 2 cents. I still do love your wallpaper though:)

Sorry if this post is so wide you have to scroll, it looks fine on both my computers. karpet~I looked for pics in flickr-I quess my search words should have included sampler~thanks for finding these for me. I really like the first border (rick rack)~and the quilt!Wow! teresa~ I had forgotten about Quilters'Cache and all the examples. The rick rack (& harlequin)is like the Seminole Patchwork I was considering. Fons & Porter "Quilter's Complete Guide" gives instruction for "quick-piecing methods to decorate household accessories such as placemats & towels",why I questioned using it as a border on a quilt. Thank you for suggesting these. The white in the quilt is actually a cream batik with splashes of circles that looks like bubbles. DH says it looks like coffee drips everytime I use this fabric. babs I don't have window treatments because the window is boxed in on the sides and top, otherwise I would. As for color for panels, Red gave you some great options. Also I'd have no problem personally with using white panels - I like seeing a white that matches the white of my trim, not a cream or off white (which could look dirty in comparison) or a color, whether it's matching the wall color or something else. Red I can't find my receipt for the fabric but did find the receipt for the slipcover work and it says coverlets. Could be that they were really bedspreads which offer a lot more fabric and it was just written as coverlet but I don't really remember anymore. I know it wasn't 2 per chair because I didn't buy 4. The man who did the work did a fabulous job, but unfortunately has disappeared into the night :-( kswl thank you - I think the geometric makes it special - cleaner, less fussy.

mom2seth, the seller has 8.5yds of the orange (even tho the heading says 5yds?). I think it would look amazing on those chairs.

I haven't bought from that seller, but I've been in email contact and she answers very quickly and will cut to length if it is a large remnant. I'm contemplating the same pattern in fire engine red for my soon to be grey/blue bedroom.

Hello!

Bestyears - right up my alley, I LOVE her designs! I've always loved her rugs, never thought about fabrics.

Budge1 - I have found that red looks awesome with the gray/blue color. I had green originally with my sons bathroom, then I changed the accessories out to red. It looks awesome!

Budge1 - did you see a pic of the orange fabric online? I'd love to see it. The price is right, the chairs will cost me $185 each for the slipcover, plus the fabric, so I'd like to save on the fabric. I'll contact the seller, I need to know that it is a heavy enough fabric that my blue chairs won't show through.

I didn't read the description of the orange, but the description of the red says it is a medium weight cotton that is tightly woven and suitable for slipcovers. You might want to discuss it with your seamstress/upholsterer and make sure they think it's suitable. I've made a few slipcovers and it sounds good to me - just make sure you pre-shrink it. Also, never dry them in the drier - put them back on the chairs damp.
