How are my fellow Raynaud's people doing?

I had to get up at 4:45 this morning to drive my son to his commuter van. At 5:00 a.m. I discovered I'm out of disposable foot warmers. This is not good! I had an unopened box that I thought contained 40 pair, but they turned out to be large hand warmers instead. I have 80 pair on order from Amazon, and hope they arrive today. The mail doesn't come till 1:00 p.m. at the earliest, but I'll probably spend some of the morning in my warm bed since I got less than four hours sleep last night.

So how's everyone else doing?

My hands aren't great, but they've been worse. At present I have painful purple sores on several fingers, and I can tell at least four of my fingernails will grow in creased or worse. But at least the sores aren't open; that's a big plus.

It's March--spring is coming!

I also suffer from this, sorry you have it so bad.
I use to get terrible purple open sore on the tips of my fingers and took doctors advice to have a carpel tunnel surgery done and believe it or not, I now only suffer with a few episodes a year and no more painful finger tips.
I really didn't have confidence in the surgery at first.

I'm so sorry you have this condition. What a nuisance. My good friend has scleroderma and suffers a lot from cold, numb hands. I feel so bad for her. I had carpal tunnel in one hand and the pain from cold and numbness was horrible. The surgery solved it although I do have tenderness around the scar. I also have Dupuytrens syndrome in the same hand. (Maybe you have seen the commercial where they compare a bent hand to a dried up paintbrush) At times my hand hurts and it feels tight all the time. It has also given me a case of fumble fingers! All in all, it could be a lot worse. I am not complaining --well, maybe a little.

The cold,numbness and prickling that you have does sound very similar to carpal tunnel, although thankfully I never had the sores and discoloration. Good luck to you!

Hi. It's not so bad here on the Upper Cape today. Maybe we got 5 inches? There was rain mixed in and the roads were kind of sucky. The worst are the giant piles of snow at intersections, you can't see where you're going, almost got creamed going to the orthodontist with DS. My driveway is a disaster and probably will be until Spring. DH is stuck in NH, hoping to stop tomorrow or Wednesday to help DD clear her parking space a little better. Shovel out the Hovel as it were...Our business is at ski mountains, which you would think would be great with all this snow, but I think it's hurting. Nobody can get there from here. I am hoping the Spring season will be busy, goodness knows we'll have a good base.

Patriciae, I'm impressed with your rat knowledge! I know a family that keeps several rats as pets, but I don't know what kind they are. The mom (a very bright woman) has told me about the rats' personalities and affectionate nature. I absolutely believe her, but I'm not tempted. I also know a college professor who rescues orphaned baby opossums. He told me opossums seek the warmth of macadam roads on their feet in cold weather, and they're often killed by cars while still carrying their young in pouches. So my friend takes them home to raise. They live only about three years. I don't know if they'd live longer in the wild, but it seems unlikely. I meant to mention that I spent several hundred dollars last week getting my piano repaired because of mouse damage. When we first moved here, mice built a nest in the piano that came with the house--a marvelous old upright. That took some serious fixing too. But my present piano is a grand, with all the strings and hammers visible, so it never occurred to me that mice could invade it. But they went after the felts, which apparently mice consider tasty. I don't think it would have happened when I played the piano every day, but I haven't done that for some time. Re Raynaud's, mine started in my feet about 40 years ago. I wear disposable foot warmers six months of the year. It gets expensive, so I should probably look at alternatives. Eandhl, I'm the same way about meds, and I react badly to antihistamines too.

What version were you running before? Is it that your new operating system won’t run the older version? If you have the original serial number, you used to be able to get a discount for an upgrade via buying it entirely new. Adobe might be able to help if you reach out to them directly. Also, look under their photography plans, they have one that has PS with Lightroom for only $10per month vs PS by itself for $20. It’s a marketing ploy for them to get people to use more Adobe products. Like how the Creative Suite Cloud is cheaper than buying all the programs individually.

Mtn - Thank you for putting together the ”Community Chest”. Glad to be able to join in. I have been participating off and on in GW for ages, at least 17 years. I remember Spike, THS, Garden Web and all. Have had several screen names and breaks along the way. Not sure when I discovered the Conversations group, but it has been my favorite board for quite a few years. So many wonderful people, the camaraderie here is very special.

I have a lot of red bumpy sores on just my right hand, none on the left. And my toes are usually white even with warmers and two pair of socks. These will all disappear when the temps warm.

I am able to control it through diet but I haven't been very good lately so it's creeping up on me - seriously purple knuckles (2) right now. I have never gotten sores though. That's rough. Spring is coming at least!

Cookie, what sort of dietary changes have you found helpful with Raynaud's?

I had carpal tunnel surgery in one hand, but it didn't affect the Raynaud's one way or the other. And certainly it didn't affect my feet. :-)

I went shopping for more foot warmers this afternoon, and unexpectedly found a great pair of gloves. That is, they're fleece gloves sewn into insulated leather mittens. I think they'll be great for moving firewood around outside. They're from a Canadian company (www.ganka.ca) and cost less than I would have thought: $14.99.
