Benjamin Moore finishes

I am repainting a bedroom with BM's My Valentine, and I picked up a quart today to try it out on the walls (no 2oz samples of the color). When I talked to one of the sales associates at the BM store, he said eggshell was fine in bedrooms, so that is what I got, thinking the slight shinyness would make the color seem more vibrant. I put it up on part of the wall and asked for my mother's opinion. She said that eggshell never goes in bedrooms, she has it in the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry room, because it's more cleanable. She said matte is much better for bedrooms, and now I am unsure how to proceed. I like the eggshell now, but if it's something that is "just not done," then I would rather turn back now before I spend a ton on paint (it's a 4B color so its nearly $20/quart). Is eggshell in an adult's bedroom a mistake?
