I have had it with deck stain
Comments (154)I use TWP 100 Pecan 120 on a 14x25' deck. initially I applied 2 coats & right after the 2nd application it rained. I covered it with 2 large water proof tarps with no adverse effects. Looked better than I could have ever imagined. 3 years later I, contrary to my wife's input, & washed it with a triphosphate/bleach/hot water mixture (followed the Triphosphate box instructions) with a dark red cleaning pad 6" x 9". I cleaned 4 boards at a time going with the grain & going the 14' direction. I dipped the pads (cut one in 1/2 to cover the entire bottom of the applicator with 5 rubber bands holding the pad to the application. No rubber bands broke either & cheap ones at that. No sanding whatsoever! It happened to be hot & sunny the entire time, but you take what you can get. After cleaning each 4 board section, I rinsed the sections off going away from the uncleaned boards. I had to give a 2nd coat to a couple heavily greened areas, I waited only one day, even as it rained the very minute I finished the job. I waited only one day to stain. Steamy & sunny. Looks wonderful. Used an old car washing glove for the balusters, dipping in the stain & wringing it out. One can cover the entire baluster in one swipe!...See MoreHelp/Advice for Deck Paint or Deck Stain for Brown/Peach Brick Home
Comments (1)Love that SW raisin! The cedar on the siding stain and deck would look great as long as it is opaque enough to cover what it already in existence. The paint experts at your local SW store could recommend the right products. Good job!...See MoreCedar Deck Staining - what is the best deck stain brand in Canada?
Comments (1)Decks require a lot of work no matter what stain you choose but I would need to know what you used last. Was it a solid stain? What brand was it. I have about 2000 sq ft of deck and it requires recoating about every 4 yrs at least the part around our pool and the part in full sun for sure . It is a pain but I don't like fake planks and I really can't afford dura -deck so thats it for me. We are just in the midst of doing our deck so have done some research too . We chose BEHR Weather Proofing all in one solid stain and sealer . We did a test last year with it and it stood up well over a year so we are doing the rest . IMO no deck finish lasts forever this comes with a 10 yr "warranty" IMO if it lasts 5 I am happy....See MoreDeck stain color to go with BM Iron Mountain with Onyx trim?
Comments (6)I LOVE the example you shared Jan and agree that with that house the cedar and dark elements work beautifully together. The architecture of the home you shared and more modern plank of the cedar works there... I'm just not sold on it with our home. I can possibly see it working for the back of the home with the cedar shake sided screen porch on right of original image I posted--but the front of the house not as much. Both BM and SW color consults discussed changing the cedar on the front of the house to match the body color with the exception of the peak over the front door. The thought was to keep the eye focused to the entry and not to all the other "accents"... I'd love to find a happy median of a more modern color palette/style that I prefer but working with what we have and budget....See MoreJumpilotmdm
