Granddaughter's getting married

The wedding is April 2 and I need advice. Now I've known about this for over a year so you'd think I'd have it figured out by now (and also shed that 20 lbs. I need to lose). My problem is shoes. It's an afternoon wedding and they're having it here in Florida even though they live in California. DGD said she wanted it here because all her grandmothers live here. She's sweet that way.

Anyway, it's kind of "afternoon fancy dress" wedding. I ordered two dresses. One came yesterday and it's a plum-colored "tent" type dress with a short jacket. The dress is made in vertical panels with every other one kind of sparkly--but not too gawdy, hard to explain.

The other dress is on it's way. It's navy blue and also has a bolero and the skirt is tiered. Know what I mean? Both dresses are sleeveless with wide straps, so that jacket has to stay on :-)

One dress I'll wear and the other I'll send back. But what color shoes should I wear?? I'm thinking silver strappy but what do you think? Too much?

I would tend to wear black with plum, and navy with navy but I think silver would be fine too. What color bag do plan on using?

something comfortable and as flat as possible...we did a destination wedding in fl and lucky me, went shoeless while on the tiny beach..so did dd, the bride...later sandals...it was hot for we michganders (month of may) i'd never been able to wear shoes!

as to the dresses...which one will you wear again?? i have 3 wedding outfits i've never worn again, sigh!

It sounds fine to me, but if I were you, I'd describe the outfit to the bride or her mother, or the groom's mother, if you are on the groom's side, and ask if it's a good choice. I'm sure it's fine, but you will be more relaxed if you aren't worrying that you might feel underdressed.

An update to this thread. I ended up doing these for the bridal shower as the wedding planning was getting crazy and I didn’t want to add to the confusion. I made a few batches and added the potassium sorbate and they ended up extremely shelf stable. The funniest part was the grandmother of the groom tried a gummy at the shower and loved them. Next thing I know she’s sitting in the family room with her own personal bowl of gummies lol. Her oldest daughter realizes that she’s loving these things but probably didn’t realize they were alcoholic. I hear her yell “Mother! You put those down, you’re going to get schnockered!” We all lost it. I sent her home with her own bag for later lol.

And, why take the chance of something bad happening no matter how infinitesimal it may be? The info that was up gave the child's full name, grade level which also gives readers her age, teacher's name, school name and the address of the school. With that a stranger could easily gain the child's trust. Odds are nothing would happen, but I always feel better to err on the side of caution especially when young children are involved. Edit to add that I think this is a great project for the kids to do. It'll teach them about geography among other things in a fun and engaging way that book learning just doesn't offer. It's just the address being public that was the issue in my mind. I'm thinking of including some photos of wildlife I've taken around my property and some photos of the area where I live so that the kids can get an idea of what N. California looks like. I think I might just be more excited than the kids - brings me back to the days when I worked at a local elementary school before retiring!

Well there's a lot of silver and gold shoes seen in and around FL, Floridians wear them with shorts or pants even at the supermarket...especially who are not born and raised in Florida..but truthfully, I'd wear something else.........Navy of course with the Navy and I'd find one of the mauvy or whitish/pinkish pearls that will go with the other..If you could find a matchy matchy that would be good ....but silver or gold is so yucky/tacky in my opinion and especially for afternoon.....Id do something that I could also wear afterward.......

Congratulations to your family on the upcoming wedding.

As for the dresses, choose the one you feel fits you best and is most comfortable and flattering. For the plum one, what about grey or taupe shoes? I think black would stand out too much unless the plum is very dark, and I don't like white shoes but that's just me. What kind of shoe are you thinking of? Low or high, sandal or enclosed? There are some great online shoe sites like zappos or shoebuy, and even if you don't buy there (although I think they both have free shipping both ways), you might get some ideas browsing online.
