Latte, Restrained Gold/Mannered Gold, or the shade below Whole Wheat (forget the name) might be worth looking at.

I think you can ask the store to mix a color "double strength" so if you like Tobacco Road, e.g., ask if they can make it a shade or two darker for you.

mandy, I JUST GOT FOUR COLORS mixed in sample quarts from the Duron TOBACCO ROAD strip. I love the colors! If you're interested in more info., let me know!

Eliza: Don't mean to hijack Mandy's thread or to intrude but I would be interested in the paint formula for Duron Tobacco Road and Plantation Beige if you would please. I have seen TR on walls and LOVE IT but I have not seen any Plantation Beige live. Does it have a gold tone to it? I am thinking of painting my dining room (south facing) TB and my den (north facing) Plantation Beige and would love your comments on this idea. Thank you

I will get the formulas on the top of my cans from Home Depot and get them to you-- the formulas are for quart sizes in eggshell finish.

One more thing, gagesgranny, the Plantation Beige is very soft and light, but pretty. It does have a golden tone to it, but again, it's light.

I think any of the color combinations from the TR strip would be great. I will say in adjacent rooms or rooms visible to one another, I don't think the TR and PB will look highly contrasting...only subtle. I really like the color one shade darker than TR, too-- it's called Tattersall Brown.

SW Stonebriar is a darker, golden tan. Not so dark as to overpower but stands out well against crown.

It's a deep base but an LRV of 43.

Does anyone have the Home Depot formula for plantation beige? I've heard it is a GREAT neutral color that goes with practically anything. There is no Duron store in my area and Sherwin Williams does not give it as a color. The closest match I seem to find is 7159 Gourd and 2828 Colonial Revival Tan on the Sherwin Williams web site. Of course it is really hard to tell on the computer. So if anyone has actually gotten plantation beige from Home Depot or Lowes, I'd really appreciate the formula codes. Thanks!! :-)

Not to burst bubbles, but I really don't see how having just the formula information will be of value. You must have the formula AND a chip in tandem for any kind of accuracy. Speaking to formulas specifically, you have to be absolutely sure of the efficacy of equipment from store to store, you must know the quantity and base the color was mixed in as well. Simply having the list of colorants from arbitrary brands and grades and the respective amounts of colorant shot is a fraction of the information you need. Even if you have all the data, I question if anyone really knows or remembers what the original TR and PB really look like -- it's been a long while since chips were available and at this point it's like a bad game of telephone. Pictures posted on the www only add to the ambiguity of what paint stores are mixing and shippin' out as TR and PB.

It would only be prudent to wonder about the true essence of these colors and how much of it has been lost in translation. Multiple, convoluded translations.

But, if accuracy and trueness of color doesn't matter much, a sample or a quart only costs a few bucks so really there's no harm in the grand scheme of things.

I just felt I needed to make sure everyone was going at this with clear expectations.

I have been through the MILL looking for the original TR and colors on that Duron strip. I am surrounded by pots of testers and my walls are patchwork quilts. I am in Canada and the nearest SW to me is two hours away. Even then...they didn't seem to be able to find the color. I sent away for samples of Blonde, RG for other purposes.

Well. FINALLY, lo and behold. I joined the Sherwin Williams site and wrote to them. I explained what I was looking for with the paint number and said I needed a strip from DURON.

They wrote to someone for me to ask about it and today in the mail I got a DURON strip of every color on that original sample!! I got the DURON TR, Plantation Beige, Millet, Sandy Lane and Whispering Birch! They say "Duron" on the back. A letter was included where they had tracked this down for me. I'm SO impressed I may just drive the two hours to give SW the business. They knew I would have to use a competitors matching when they went to hunt these strips down for me and did it anyway, paid the postage and made phone calls. Color me IMPRESSED!!

I am now the proud owner of the original Duron TR paint strips. Thank god I can start painting!

I planned to use the TR for the walls and do the PB on the ceilings with a white for the trim. I am also going to paint my kitchen cupboards with the Sandy Lane I think...

Does anyone know what greens, blues or reds have gone well with TR??? I'm thinking of using Blonde in one bdrm...I'm so happy to get started FINALLY!

If you write to Sherwin Williams head quarters apparently they DO have a few of the original strips from Duron left.
