I hate stuff like that. On one of my vision tests I listened to the guy in front of me and memorized it real quick. It came my turn and they told me to read it backwards. Took some time, buy I did it! I have to have bifocals which don't help w/ distance vision and the folks at the driver's license place just don't understand that. One time I had to get a note from a doc stating that fact. It's a rigamorole, you're right! Good luck!

Had to clear snow from back door a couple of times.

Shovelled snow away from garage door - and had trouble travelling in yard, made several attempts to get going, travelled out into the field ... and got stuck as I tried to get back on to the lane near the road. Shovelled self out, then shovelled out where the snow plow had pushed snow up.

Got rear view mirror on car replaced, got proof of insurance (couldn't find mine).

Had checked all lights operating, horn, etc. yesterday.

Now about to pick up the spare driver, who'll need to sit in the seat beside me if they give me a beginner's cause I don't pass the test.

Oh - and there was snow in the insurance agent's yard, plus pushed up by the city plough, so I shovelled out their driveway, some, as well.

Found out something (once more) ... I don't have the stamina that I useded to have.

My family has weakness of lungs, and I don't get as much exercise as I should, so I was puffing pretty well after the bouts of shovelling.

But - aware that some have heart attacks doing that, I approach that task with care.

'Bye for now - I'm on my way.

By the way - I'd better get a good supply of milk in, in case I get the restricted licence, for I'm a fairly heavy consumer of it.

Good luck Ed and you be careful when shovelling snow. The storm we had last night brought really heavy snow.

If you got the same storm we got until 7 am this morning they should have cancelled your driving test. You can't even see the cement on the roads.

Ed, I sure hope it's over now and you passed with flying colors. DH is going to have the same problem next March as he has cataracts they won't repair until they get his BP under control. Please let us know how it went. You sure are in my thoughts now.

Joyful, good luck on the test and hope you have good weather. My husband (age 61) had two accidents last year, he has MS and takes medication. He got a letter to take a vision test and a road test .YIKES! He passed both, but he has now stopped driving all together. I am his chauffer.

What gene did I miss out on?

Must have been the gene for sensible driving, I guess ...

... cause I flunked!

Didn't look as much as I should have, starting out, didn't drive fast enough on highway and expressway, turning in a double lane from expressway to multi-lane road (with pavement markings, but some obscured), I turned too close - he said that was a dangerous action. I wasn't close to the parallel car ... but - you don't argue.

Didn't check blind spot enough, when I was asked to park, didn't put brake on.

Didn't come to a complete stop at a "STOP" sign (and I didn't stop behind the white line, either, but he didn't refer to that).

There are 343 boxes that are to be dealt with - I don't want to tell you how many have marks in them! I haven't counted ... I guess that I'd say, "yet", as I imagine that I'll be checking it later.

Can't read all of his written remarks.

So - I now have a temporary learner's licence, meaning that I must have a licensed driver in the seat beside me when I'm on the road. Can't drive on expressway (unless with licensed driving instructor), and can't drive between midnight and 5:00 a.m.

I must wait 10 days before I can try it again ... and they have me slated for March 31.

My friend, who went with me to the test, said that they gave him a hard time, and he had to make do with a learner's permit for a month and a half - thinks they want to shake us seniors up a bit.

That makes me a certified member of the Senior Citizens Second Childhood Club.

I got some milk on the way home, have a well-stocked freezer, can make my own bread ... but will have to make arrangements for milk. Or get a bunch of powder ... which, for drinking, makes me go "Uugg-g-h!".

Again - I appreciate all of your good thoughts and hopes.

Looks like I'll need even more of 'em, in nearly 4 weeks!

I have heard that going to Chatham for your permit is a good thing to do. Seems a lot of people around here who have failed go to Chatham for their test and pass. Not sure if that is a good thing or not. LOL

Well Ed,if you need to, go to Chatham..that is what the Bancroft seniors would do,when they had issues..they would go to Beaverton

hmmmm Ed. Did you stay up that late or get up that early?...considering the time of your OP?

Were you well rested for your test? If not, hopefully you will be the next time. It also sounds like you did quite a bit, just getting ready (mirror, insurance, shoveling snow, getting stuck, shoveling more snow, passenger, shoveling more snow).

Why not take son with you and try and drive the route you took today. Son can then be the judge and point out things maybe needing some attention.

Maybe the next time will just be so much better all the way around.

An elderly friend once failed the driving part of her exam. She hired a Drivers Education School Teacher to give her a few lessons until she and he felt comfortable with her being able to pass it. She did just fine then.

This was a friend who I taught how to drive when she was 74 years old. She had not driven even a mower or anything in her life. It was so much fun for both of us.

I met a guy at church on Sunday who's a driving instructor and he said that he'd run me around the route.

When I took the knowledge test on Tues., they said that they could do the driving test on the next day, so I agreed, but maybe I should have asked whether they had a date in a week or so, as I had to have the driver's door mirror installed. That would have given me time to have done the run with Jim, as well: I'm sure that his observations would have been instructive.

My original post was before I went to bed - possibly more sleep would have been helpful, but I think that I was operating at good efficiency.

Looks like if I want to attend the Old Farts' Coffee Hour later today, I'll have to hitch-hike. I think that it's to be around zero, and when the sun's out, that's fairly comfortable, when one is reasonably clad. Don't think that I'll do that.

My friend wants a display box from the barn and for me to do a couple of errands for him on Friday, and the guy who went with me today is willing to ride shotgun.

Driving tests are stressful at the best of times. Some examiners seem to be harder than others too.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise so that you will brush up on your driving skills and that will make you safer.
